Today is the 159th anniversary of Juneteenth, when the last group of enslaved Black Americans in the Confederacy learned they were free. Juneteenth is a federal holiday now— but there is still so much work to do to address the systemic systems of oppression, discrimination, racism and social and economic injustice that face all Black Arkansans & Americans. Arkansas, while we’ve still got so much work to do to to ensure that our state and nation truly guarantees LIBERTY & JUSTICE for ALL, Juneteenth is a reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we have left to go. Let’s celebrate the progress we’ve made— and recommit ourselves to the fight for a better future for our country and for Arkansas ✅
