@ceritheviking @Penddu2 Very confusing, so you can't get to this new Arena from the city? What is the importance of the company's value? Surely it's being built to benefit the local economy and for people attending events there? Or is it limited to company use?

Big on steel this week me!! Cardiffs new arena going up fast. (Wrong place mind!!). And a new car park. (Traffic bedlam ahead) Lots of steel. Wonder how much is welsh / British. ?

Here is a clear and jargon-free (coughs) description of the differences between, Britain, Great Britain, the U.K., Ireland, and the British Isles. 🇬🇧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇮🇪 Scotland, England, and Wales make up Britain (or Great Britain). This is the larger of the two islands. The United Kingdom (UK) is Britain and a country of the island of Ireland (Northern Ireland) together. Ireland is, as we have said, the other island. But Ireland itself is made up of two countries: The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. This odd situation is compounded by a good many Northern Ireland residents who insist on calling themselves British. (We’ll leave the politics of that out of this post…) Both the islands of Ireland and Britain combined are called the British Isles in a geographic sense. But this framing is contested by many Irish residents, who dislike the term British, for exactly the same reason that some Northern Irish folk love it. Following so far? Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all have individual national soccer teams. In rugby, however, Ireland play as one team. Confused? It gets worse. At the Olympics, athletes from Northern Ireland can represent Team Ireland or Team Great Britain (there is no U.K. Olympic team). Oh, and let us not forget the Isle of Man. Despite being slap-bang in the middle of Northern Ireland and Great Britain, it doesn’t form part of the U.K., but it is in the British Isles. Happy to have cleared all that up.

@Penddu2 @HiraethPolitics Nothing to central. It’s wing put in for 100 million by public funds to make the arena work because it’s in the wrong place !!! It helps but it’a just how much public money is going into a 40 billion dollar US company project

@NigDavT @AjrGeo No time Soon. Only the current rail service. Tram 28 or so ? It’ll help but just moving people from one mode to another andthen issues with that. Most I suspect will drive for understandable reasons that I’m fine with. It’s the obfuscating of the development that irks

@DavidHCardiff Depends what you want the bay to be. Now it’s a mix of everything and probably not the best at anything. Should have probably just focused it as a new high density suburb supporting the cbd - not competing with it.

@ceritheviking I can see arguments for having it in the centre. But, the redevelopment of the Bay had stalled. Swathes of land sitting empty for years. Bars and restaurants struggling with intermittent/seasonal trade. Moving the arena there is probably the best way to get things going again.

@tobygoldblatt I am sure I know but have forgotten the plans. I imagine demolition and redevelopment as high rise accommodation of one sort of another

@DavidHCardiff Which is why it’s another argument for it being in the wrong place. But it ls also going against the planning arguments made to get it built too. (Which everyone knows was wrong and your take on it is exactly what will happen)

@ceritheviking The Arena would struggle without proper parking facilities. People will be coming from all over South Wales and the West of England; public transport will be unsuitable for many, especially when going home from evening shows.
