Here is a framework for profiling players that we are going to use to develop SCOUTED Archetypes: It's an oversimplification of football, of course. But it serves as a way to identify superpowers and platform them accordingly. The end goal for any team is Production. In its truest form, that means goals. In this case, however, we're talking about the production of shots: whether a player is taking the shot or directly assisting a teammate. Even looking at a player's main product can help profile them. Do they shoot? Do they assist shots? Do they do both? That will create separation. But you can go deeper. Production can be achieved through three other Ps: Possession, Progression and Penetration. ▫️ Possession: secure and retain the ball ▫️ Progression: move the ball towards goal ▫️ Penetration: get the ball inside the box Just as a player's primary product helps us profile their style, their primary means of producing it is the next step. You can achieve the three Ps through five main traits: Passing, Moving, Dribbling, Carrying and Pressure. The architecture of each SCOUTED Archetype is based on which Ps a particular profile looks to achieve and their primary means of doing so. Some examples: 🧭 The Pathfinder Archetype is defined by Progression through Passing 💣 The Defuser Archetype is defined by Possession through evading Pressure 💪 The Power Forward Archetype is defined by Penetration through Moving, specifically moving vertically at speed The final step is then to evaluate all of those measures through the lens of Effectiveness and Efficiency. As explained brilliant by @MH_SV5, there is a difference: ▫️ Effectiveness: scoring goals (doing a thing) ▫️ Efficiency: scoring goals from as few chances as possible Some profiles are based on their effectiveness. Some are based on their efficiency. While players that are effective in various ways resulting in elite-level Production through multiple means are considered Gamebreakers. Mohamed Salah, for example, is one of the most effective players in the world when evaluating Penetration through Carrying, through Passing and through Moving. In a recent newsletter, we looked at the difference between Progression via Carrying and Penetration via Carrying to show that although Noni Madueke and Jérémy Doku are both elite ball-carriers, they differ slightly in their application of their superpower.
