@bphillipsonMP Not all parents!! You have increased my schooling costs considerably without giving time to make alternative arrangements- oh and on that there are no spaces for my son in our area that are suitable - academic scholar working two years ahead. How would that be catered for??

Plenty anger on the Tory benches, little by way of ideas. Still clutching to their dire record Still defending stuck schools Still protecting uniform racketeers Still set to cut £1.8 bn from state schools Labour is cutting costs for parents and driving higher school standards.

Thank you to all our followers for your support. GOOD NEWS: The petition on #SchoolFeeVAT will be debated in Parliament on MARCH 3rd! Please ask your MP to attend. 🙏 This tax must go because: 🏫 It puts more kids into overcrowded state schools and harms SEN provision. 📉 It will close schools, cost jobs, hurt local areas, and burden state schools. 🎓It cuts bursaries for poorer families and risks ending community programs. 🚸 It punishes hard working parents who wish to follow a different education pathway for their child. State schools need funding, but this is the wrong political choice. #FindABetterWay #educationNotTax @ISC_schools @HMC_Org @Conservatives @RossKempsell @reformparty_uk @LibDems @libdemdaisy @EstherMcVey1 @LauraTrottMP @BellaWallerstei @BradleyThomasUK @DrBenSpencer @TiceRichard @RupertLowe10

My daughter’s school announced yesterday it’s shutting down. No warning. Just shutting down. 100s of distraught kids.   Why? Labour’s tax hikes on school fees & NI hikes on staff. A high-quality, nurturing school forced to close because of greedy, arrogant taxation. Disgusting. All it does is pile more pressure on overcrowded state schools.  How can ANYONE justify taxing education. Labour are destroying the very foundations of our children’s future.  What an absolute disgrace. @UKLabour

Labour's #SchoolFeeVAT has consequences for UK music & drama.👇 Specialist schools like Chetham’s & Yehudi Menuhin rely on bursaries, not wealthy parents. VAT risks forcing talented students out & cutting access to private music teachers—hurting the arts for all. 🎻🎭 👀bigissue.com/culture/music/… #FindABetterWay #EducationNotTax @lisanandy @bphillipsonMP @MenuhinSchool @Chethams

How did society get to the stage where it celebrated the closure of education? What has become of us? I send both of my daughters to a state school. I went to a state school. I believe 100% in the state education system. However, Labour’s new tax on private school fees is nothing other than a bitter, vindictive and petty policy that results in everyone losing out. The policy will worsen the education of every child in the UK, regardless of what school they are in, and it will result in less tax overall in the government coffers. This is not just my view, but the view of the Independent Schools Council and their Chief Executive Julie Robinson who stated: ‘The negative effects of this unprecedented tax on education will be felt by families and children across state and independent schools.’ Adding that it is likely that the new policy will actually COST the treasury money. With the new policy: State Schools are going to lose out – experts predict an influx of 40,000 – 50,000 of additional pupils coming into an already stressed state school system. The treasury is going lose out – if someone sends their child to a private school the state saves around £10,000 per year and the person is already paying taxes for a service they don’t use. The UK is going to lose out – VAT on private education is against EU law. No other European Union country charges VAT on private education. This further reducing UK overall international competitiveness. Pupils are going to lose out – according to the Independent School Council the new policy will decrease the quality of education for children in both private and public schools. Just like with their catastrophic business policies Labour refuse to listen to any expert, such as the Independent Schools Council or the Confederation of British Industry and just bury their head in the sand. VAT on school fees is bad for children, bad for families, bad for the UK and according to experts will result in LESS tax revenue overall. Yet, Bridget Phillipson, Labour’s Education Secretary boasted about wearing the deluded new tax as ‘a badge of honour’. It is so sad to see what is currently happening to our country, to our economy and to our children’s futures. Please let me know your thoughts on the UK’s new tax on private education and how it may impact your family.

@ces111 @sachah46 @NoEducationTax @UKLabour @EducationNotTax Politicians say a lot - doesn’t always mean it’s right or that they will implement it. The manifesto said Sept 25 - giving parents time to plan and change schools. By the time Jan was discussed and budget given it was too late to give notice to leave, parents are stuck mid yr

@ces111 @sachah46 @NoEducationTax @UKLabour @EducationNotTax Because the annual increases are usually around 5-8%. NB I use the word annual not a sudden need to find 3-4 annual increases in one go only 1 term after this years annual increase. You plan for annual and expect some pay rise to cover some. Who’s had a 28% rise this year? You?

And all this for what? Very little certainty of the financial case. Great certainty about the harms (see Greece!) And in the best case scenario it will deliver 1/3 of a teacher per school (over the course of the Parliament) #SchoolFeeVAT - it's not worth it #FindABetterWay #EducationNotTax
