Not many people can really understand what it is like to have your life turned upside down because courts in Australia uphold and defend the lie a man can be a woman. I can’t express my gratitude enough for @salltweets and I stand in “Sallidarity” with this incredible woman today and every day.

The phrase 'I got it wrong', or even worse 'I got this one wrong', is a cop-out. It minimises the offending words or actions, and fails to engage with and take responsibility for the harm done and the thinking and values behind it. It is a way of short-circuiting the process 1/2

@jstangroom I was baptised at Buckfast as a baby. It's where all my family are buried. Always wanted to move there permanently. Perfect mix of Datmoor and the English Riviera. Or it might just be because I had such a wonderful time there as a child.

@CF_Farrow Yeah, just up the road from Bovey. My grandma worked at Stover School in Newton Abbot. My mother spent her youth walking on Dartmoor.

My maternal family is from Devon. We could see Haytor from my Nana’s back garden, and our summer holidays there were idyllic. We’d decamp for weeks rather than go abroad, with climbing Haytor Rocks always a highlight. Devon always felt so safe and insulated; simply not somewhere you associated with brutal violent crime. Ann Widdecombe’s murder is a shocking reminder of how much the world has changed. (AP News)

@CF_Farrow Snap — my maternal grandma lived in Higher Brimley, a couple of miles from Haytor. Also climbed the rock—most of it, anyway—as a child. These events seem utterly incongruous with the area.
