What are we playing first on our Commodore Amiga? I fancy a game of Lemmings. #RETROGAMING

@mwestapps @RetroBrothers Step 1: Rename every player and team. Step 2: Spend hours on it. Step 3: Finally play. 10/10 childhood experience. ⚽🕹️

Hello Cult, things have been a bit quieter around Deadbeef lately. A lot happened at once: my landlord claimed personal use, so I had to search for a new apartment. A very close friend passed away a couple of days ago, and I also had some health issues. Things are getting better again. 🖤

Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life... and of course: Quake! When Quake (id Software) was published in 1996 it was yet another massive milestone of FPS history. If you were a FPS fan in the 90s, you had almost too much choice... and Quake was simply incredible. Level designs based on gothic fiction (think H.P. Lovecraft) and a kickass soundtrack; Quake featured music composed by Trent Reznor and his band Nine Inch Nails. Blasting through monsters with the Super Nailgun, the adrenalin pumping, Quake just had that "special sauce", whether in single or multi-player mode. Quake is often regarded as the best game ever made (for its era), but despite critical acclaim, the development was controversial in the history of id Software. The majority of the team left the company after the game was published, including co-founder John Romero. This was apparently due to creative differences and a lack of leadership. If anyone knows more about this, I would love to hear. Up until then, id Software had delivered 3 hits in a row (Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, now Quake), so it's always a bit sad to think what more could have been if that team didn't break up. Still, what remains is one of the best FPS games ever, with countless sequels.

@SolanaSensei If your product needs constant hype, it’s probably weak.
