The Trump attacks on the UK seem absurd but might be tactical. The narrative could be (US) are walking away, "get the oil yourself". And Iran will charge $2m per mega tanker, adding $1 per barrel. This pivots a US loss into a perceived UK loss. And ignores that Iran won.

You are exactly right, they are going to have to make some really hard decisions. While I support Trump, I can see why he infuriates so many people and it’s often counterproductive. I think many EU countries pat themselves on the back with how they judge Trump and refuse to get involved with his “illegal” wars, while they hypocritically want to expand the war in Ukraine. I think the U.S. should pull back on focus on the Western Hemisphere and pull out of NATO. Continue as meaningful trade partners but let the Europeans fight their own wars. They can feel the pain of paying for their own defense.

How the hell is NATO going to pay for all those socialist programs when they have to pony up for all their own defense without the United States backing them up? I'm buying my popcorn to watch this one!

European countries that host U.S. bases aren’t doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. We pay for those bases and we pump millions into their economies, while our the same time protecting their sovereignty. It’s their country and if they want us out, we should leave. But if there’s no reason for us to be there, we should leave of our own volition.

During Trump’s first administration, I thought his ideas about NATO were crazy. I’m 65 and NATO has been the key to collective security for my entire life. But everything — or most things —Trump says about NATO are true. The U.S. has always been annoyed to watch Europe build a social welfare state while paying lip service to their military obligations, but Trump has been the only U.S. President to do something about it.
