@koontzjr_ @CoachIvany Bust out your wallet; about to get a bit expensive! But as far as coaching you’re better off looking out to Long Island or up towards Westchester County. LI has competitive football and Westchester is in the NYSPHSAA, so a chance to play for a state title. NYC is it’s own league

As of yesterday it’s official; my wife & I are moving to New York City in June, & I’m on the hunt for a new coaching position. If anyone knows of any schools or openings looking for assistants (and teachers), please reach out!

@ChalkLast0712 #2 requires a lot of self-scouting, but also allows an OC to tweak every play to fit every formation, allowing the entire system to be run regardless of look. I coached in a multi-formation system that only ran certain plays from certain looks. Good defenses teed off on us

2 ways to create issues for a defense with formations: -have so many formations that defenses have to spend extra time in practice & can easily get misaligned OR -have so few formations the defense never knows what is coming bc tendencies are much more difficult to figure out

@retiredfbcoach @FilmHistoric I bought the Passing Game 6 years ago when it was $30…wish I would have purchased the entire set. I have all of Creehan’s 2nd edition, which are now a hot commodity as well

@WinningSystemFB Agree with a few others, Quick Game since it can help out leverage a more athletic opponent. I like Crossing Concepts from 11 Personnel, but Flood/Sail are essential when operating from 21 Personnel

@dubswill @CoachFBInsights The one I coach does…I’d say at least 50% of high school programs do. Especially smaller schools that still play 11 man

@dubswill @CoachFBInsights Agree to disagree. Look up Norm Chow’s Shallow concept out of Split Backs. That was clearly the inspiration for Hal Mumme’s Mesh concept. Hal just emphasized the Flat as #2 in the progression rather than the mesh

@esgeisel @CoachFBInsights Those are not remotely the same concept lol. Shallow is essentially essentially a drive concept with the hi-low coming from two different sides of the ball. Mesh is two shallows creating a rub at the 2nd level

@JJWatt Was always an overly generous tipper. Had a friend one time say “No Tip!” during Covid when we were charged a fortune for take out…was the most liberating expression I’ve ever hear. I still tip when it’s earned, but if I’m serving myself then I’m walking out guilt free

Genuine question on a restaurant situation: You walk up to a counter to order. You find your own table and seat yourself. If you order coffee, they hand you a cup and you go fill it up yourself. If you order food, they hand you a buzzer and when it goes off, you go pick it up yourself. The iPad has a “20%, 25%, 30%, Other” tip option, with 20% already preselected. What’s your move?

There are moments in life when words just aren’t enough. Losing Coach Holtz is one of those moments. Coach was so much more than a football coach to me. He was family. I still remember the day he came to my house to recruit me. He didn’t just sit down and talk to me about football or what I could do on the field. He talked to me as a young man. And he spoke to my mom the way a man should speak to a mother who was trusting someone with her son. He looked her in the eye and promised that I would be taken care of at Notre Dame. That moment meant everything to us, and it’s something I’ve carried with me my entire life. Coach Holtz believed in people. He believed in building men, not just players. He welcomed my entire family into the Notre Dame family and always made sure we felt that love and support. That’s who he was. He cared deeply about the people around him, and he made every one of us feel like we mattered. The lessons he taught me went far beyond football. His faith, his discipline, his belief in doing things the right way shaped who I became as a man, a father, and a leader. My heart is broken today, but I’m also filled with gratitude for the time I had with him and for the impact he had on my life. Coach will always be with us—in the lessons he taught, in the lives he changed, and in the love he gave so freely. Thank you for everything, Coach. I love you. You will forever be in our hearts. Go Irish ☘️

@WinningSystemFB 21 Personnel Split Backs/I Formation. Power/Duo. Stretch/Boot opens up and GT Counter. A Pin/Pull Toss Sweep with TE pinning and OT pulling is another way to get the edge. Also run a Split Zone scheme with a backside sift block from the non running back. All revolves around Power

The best high school offenses I’ve been around all had ONE thing in common. They didn’t run 50 plays. They ran 5 plays from 20 formations. Execution beats complexity every time. Coaches — what’s the one play your offense is built on? Hashtags #FootballTwitter #Coaches #PlayCalling

Lou Holtz
Lou Holtz@CoachLouHoltz88·
Louis Leo “Lou” Holtz, legendary college football coach, Hall of Famer, bestselling author, and one of America’s most influential motivational voices, has passed away at the age of 89 in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by family. Born January 6, 1937, in Follansbee, West Virginia, Holtz rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected figures in college athletics. Over a remarkable five‑decade career, he led college programs at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina.  He transformed every team he inherited and captured the 1988 National Championship with the Fighting Irish. Holtz was preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Beth, with whom he shared a life grounded in faith, devotion, and service.   Holtz is remembered for his enduring values of faith, family, service, and an unwavering belief in the potential of others. His influence extended far beyond the football field through the Holtz Charitable Foundation and the many players, colleagues, and communities shaped by his leadership. He is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and two great‑grandchildren. Funeral arrangements, including a Mass of Christian Burial at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame, will be announced as details are finalized. The Holtz Family

Wolfpack is such a great concept that is difficult to cover. Just missed here in 2024 from San Jose St. This concept is gaining popularity at the college level. I expect to see even more schools run it next year.

@Dan_Gonzalez16 @ChalkLast0712 I learned this as a Trips concept called Under, but I like Victor as a concept name as well. I like how you install Switch concepts with the inside Verts. Do you think a Y Cross from the backside would mesh well with this?

Love this. We call it VICTOR - Viper (Vert Inside Landmark) with Control By Outside Receiver). They tag #3 here (Gray box that drops down). If you are gonna spend the time working vertical reads, it's worthwhile to have a way to get different folks on check downs (EX Cant get back out or need a 2-man release away).

@CoachTatum90 Minimal scouting, no academic/behavior management, very little (if any) politics. Coaching football is even more of a grind than playing. I didn’t believe it until midway through my 1st season. I appreciate what private trainers have done for the sport, but you’re right

It’s easier to be a trainer (that doesn't coach) than be a coach. No Friday night criticism. No scoreboard attached to your name. All the benefits of working with athletes year-round. Agree or disagree?

@NittanyNatRec @JoshPateCFB Ignore the hate. It’s either “bot” and paid for or it’s so ingrained in some individuals after a decade of propaganda and lawfare that they can’t engage in civil discourse. Mass psychosis is an understatement. US Presidents can talk pro/college sports just like the rest of us

I don’t talk politics on this account and never will. This account is strictly CFB and particularly Penn State. I will say it’s really shitty that the person who best reps and gives attention to the sport we love is now being treated this way. I will always rock with @JoshPateCFB
