@TouchlineX @beinsports_FR Yes, the card should be reversed and given to the Paraguayan player for embellishing. Absolutely disgraceful. 5 minutes later, because he wasn’t carded, he was rolling around the penalty box pretending he was fouled again.

🇳🇴 Norway manager Stale Solbakken with a strong response to Folarin Balogun's red card being suspended: 🗣️ Solbakken: "It is a big mistake by FIFA. It is not a great conclusion. He got a red card and the VAR concluded that it was a red card. That means you are suspended for one game. I think what is really bad about that situation is, if the USA beat Belgium, they will always have that extra thing about it. The Belgians will be furious. What about the next red card? What happens there? Will some committee take it away? It’s a bad, bad, bad, bad decision that will hurt the World Cup and the United States."

Imagine if the Canadian 🇨🇦 Prime minister decided that the Morocco vs Canada result was unfair and insisted the game must be replayed, and then the game was replayed. That’s basically the equivalent to this The fact that this was allowed is a complete disgrace to football

@WasEinHumburg I hope Balo scores a hat trick. The Belgiums crying that it was unfair they had to play against him would be tasty…..Even the Bosnian captain gave Balogun a hug before he left the field because he knew the red card was too harsh. Cry harder, it makes me happy!

Dear US-Americans, should the USMNT win against Belgium, be sure that the whole world knows, that they did so by cheating, by corruption and dishonest, no matter if Balogun plays or not. It'll hurt the image of the US more, then everything that deranged Orange did so far.

This!
Richard Motzkin@RichardMotzkin

That is incorrect. There is an appeal process via the Disciplinary Committee, @ussoccer went through it and, in my opinion, the correct result was achieved due to an incorrect application of the VAR rules, general equity and past precedent. As for Belgium, they should not be benefitted by a wrong decision nor should they want to play a short-handed team. All countries in a World Cup tournament should have confidence in their team and desire to beat an opponent at full strength, simple.

@appiecule Actually he was shown nothing, because everyone that saw it in real time (including the referee) saw an incidental coming together.

This is probably the biggest scandal in World Cup history. USA striker Folarin Balogun committed this outrageous foul against Bosnia and was shown a straight red card… but here’s where it gets crazy. The White House publicly contacted FIFA and the tournament organizers, asking them to lift his suspension. And they actually did. Balogun is now eligible to play against Belgium. The organizers cited something called a “probation period,” meaning the red card still stands, but instead of serving the mandatory suspension, he’ll only be punished if he commits a similar offense again. A blatant manipulation of the rules for everyone to see, especially considering red-card suspensions are not supposed to be appealable. When you’re expelled from school, but your dad is the Principal. 😭

No, elbowing someone in the face, covering your mouth and abusing a player, purposely trying to injure someone is deserving of a red card and suspension. Don’t be silly. Balogun didn’t even get a yellow card. Remember Beckham’s card against Argentina, it was so soft, but you can’t purposely lose control and kick out at someone. 2 red cards SHOULD HAVE been given to Paraguay for a deliberate elbow and a kick out. Possibly a third for striking the players arm/face. No red cards were given. That is an injustice against France. Poor officiating is ruining this tournament. I’m not salty that one of the worst calls was righted.

@RPMComo Every players has said that was a harsh red card. A “incidental coming together” The ref didn’t even consider it worthy of a yellow. How is it now an injustice that a player who did nothing wrong is playing. How is it now unfair for BIG BAD BELGIUM 🇧🇪?

It would take a huge amount of balls but Belgium should withdraw from the tournament. They should ask for support from their Confederation UEFA and its member Associations. UEFA should step up. Because it is so clear that FIFA want to kill UEFA and take their entire clubs.

This is insane. This is the first time a red card has been overturned in the World Cup in over 60 years. Even if you think the red card wasn’t legitimate, this is clearly a political, corrupt decision by FIFA. “Bad” calls happen all the time, and they’re never overturned.

Winning in the blue uniforms will unlock stars AND stripes 🇺🇸 mode! The last gate before we can start the Miracle On Ice campaign. We win on Monday, Balogun is released from FIFA purgatory, and we travel to Los Angeles on Air Force One where we start the European conquest on July 10th. Culminating in our first World Cup final on July 19th. Do you believe in miracles? 😴

We don’t know how good Spain is in this tournament because they haven’t been challenged yet. In this tournament, The US (because of home field/current form) would be the best side they have faced….to include Portugal. Of the teams left in the tournament, only France has scored more goals than the US. We are firing at the right time and our best player has yet to get on the scoresheet. If we get past Belgium on Monday and face Spain at full strength (with Balo) back…..we have a great chance to host Spain. After that, it would take a few consecutive miracles.

Good point. I guess my heartburn is against a team like Spain (yes, I realize the US has to beat Belgium first, but I don’t see them having the same quality back line as Spain, so US more easily can come back from going down a goal or two). Getting down two goals against Spain would likely be catastrophic.

People will reference the friendly loss to Belgium in the next 4-5 days. Please educate them: 1) It was tied 1-1 at half and I thought we outplayed them on the whole. 2) We rotated in the second half then it got out of hand 3) Even that starting lineup was missing: Dest, Freeman, Richards, Adams - check out the back 7, barely any current starters.

@AZDad55 @shinguardian They were down a goal and came back to draw, only to loose in the final moment, which in my opinion was a combination of an entree back line/keeper and Trusty unable to walk on his injured ankle. Tho goal came from his side.

Excellent analysis! You gracefully put into words what I’ve been seeing in this team. No over-reliance on a single star, creative and forward moving play, fast and aggressive attacks…just beautiful to watch. One worry though is how do they respond to being down a goal or two? And will a more disciplined team make them pay for their aggression? Regardless, cannot wait for Monday!

@PolymarketSport People keep saying this. No, the world saw a “blip” on a graphic and we are expected to believe that it proves that the ball was touched. Despite not changing direction or spin on the ball.

According to the data provided by Connected Ball Technology housed within the @adidasfootball Trionda, the official match ball of the @FIFAWorldCup, it was proven that contact was made by Croatia's #20 Igor Matanović in the build up to the goal against Portugal, allowing the referee to correctly determine offside and disallow the goal.   IMU sensors housed within the Trionda ball are capable of determining any slight contact, displayed to viewers in the broadcast as a 'heartbeat graphic', and allowing officials an unprecedented level of data to make fast, accurate decisions.
