In Singapore, we were taught British English as our first language and the subjects are also taught in British English in schools as well. The external influence from American English comes from movies, songs and social media . So at times we would just use what we knew. E.g. lift Vs elevator.

I’m Japanese and studying English… but why do native speakers speak so FAST when they get excited? 😭 I nod and smile like I understand… but I’m actually lost after 3 seconds 😂 Does this happen to you too? American English or British English — which one is faster for you?
