As a global player, one of the reasons I came to respect Love and Deepspace was that it proved to be more than "just a game." Over the past two years, Love and Deepspace has collaborated with organizations promoting women's self-defense, mental health, environmental protection, and public education. It encouraged players to care for themselves, support environmental initiatives, and engage with important social issues. One initiative I personally appreciated was the in-game educational article about menstruation. It discussed menstrual health, common medical conditions, the effects of stress and exercise, and encouraged players to seek professional care when needed. I found it refreshing to see a game treat women's health as something worth discussing instead of avoiding. Because of experiences like these, Love and Deepspace felt like a game that genuinely wanted to contribute something positive beyond entertainment. Yet somehow, an unreleased character from that very same game became widely labeled as someone who glorifies violence against women. Before players could experience Valko's complete story, conclusions had already been drawn. Much of the discussion was driven by isolated screenshots and short clips taken out of context. In some cases, scenes were cropped or sped-up, fundamentally changing how they appeared. After watching the full trailer, I don't believe it's fair to reduce an entire story to a handful of disconnected frames. The balcony scene was widely interpreted by some as proof of violence, even though the trailer never showed forced entry, threats, or the surrounding story. Valko says, "Take me in for the night," has an injured hand, and the protagonist goes to get a first aid kit. Nothing shown suggests fear, resistance, or any attempt to get away. The forest sequence was also widely shared without its full context. Before they end up lying together beneath the moonlit sky, the protagonist voluntarily jumps into Valko's arms and embraces him. Those moments were rarely included when the clips were circulated online. The trailer even highlights the word "AFFECTION" alongside scenes of care, tenderness, and emotional closeness. Whatever the complete story may have been, the promotional video presented far more than the few controversial clips that spread across social media. I'm not asking anyone to love Valko or to change their personal preferences. I'm simply asking for the same thing every story deserves: to be judged as a whole, not by edited fragments. As someone outside China, I also respect that China takes issues such as women's safety, cyberbullying, the protection of minors, and public security seriously. Those are important principles, and they deserve to be taken seriously. If those values were not important to us, none of us would still be here today. We could simply say, "It's just a game," and walk away. But Love and Deepspace became much more than that. It became a bridge between China and players around the world—a bridge built on storytelling, trust, shared values, and cultural exchange. That is why what happened with Valko has affected so many global players so deeply. It is not simply about one character. It is about wondering whether we can continue investing our time, emotions, and money into a game when major pieces of its planned story can disappear before players are ever allowed to experience them. That uncertainty inevitably weakens players' confidence. And when that confidence is shaken, it does not affect only one game. It can also influence how international players view other Chinese games that ask for the same long-term trust and commitment. I sincerely hope that bridge can continue to grow rather than weaken, because it represents something truly valuable. Justice is not only about protecting people from harm. It is also about making sure conclusions are reached only after the full picture has been seen—not before. #ValkoIsLoved #BringValkoBack #JusticeForValko
