@EddieComeaux @UCLALawReview @DrUJayakumar Universities admitting white students to keep a prestigious image is outrageous in this generation. Athletic departments are failing to be diverse because of this and thus the climate can’t be as comfortable enough for the athletes.

@Afrancooly @KatryaLy Hi Anthony, I agree with your statement. The analogy of the door accurately represents as well the saying ‘one foot out the door’ for privilege white students as ultimately they will be ones succeeding. @abhornUCRedu #ucr50

Although practices such as race-neutral experiments “aim” to defeat disparities, it would seem that they actually support privileged students by acting as a back door for athletic advantage @KatryaLy #UCR50

It has been noted that white students make up a lot of the student population of colleges especially for ‘elite schools’. Due to this, we see more white athletes than anything else. It is unfair to see the lack of diversity in intercollegiate sports. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@k1mber1yperez @KatryaLy This is such an important question to ask because at the end of the day athletes, people in general, should have freedom. Respect is also a great point to add because having respect is what supports their relationship to the sport. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

NCAA has rights to own a players’ name but won’t allow players to represent themselves how they want. It is understandable that athletic departments structure the players schedule but won’t allow them the freedom to try different things. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@galsam_12 @abhornUCRedu This is a good question to bring into discussion about female athletes as anyone should feel comfortable and seen in what they love to do. I think athletic departments should start accepting the idea that women can be leaders. @abhornUCRedu

@abhornUCRedu #ucr50 If there are more women being enrolled into spaces still dominated by men, how can we expect female athletes to be able to feel represented in their campus division or when playing in their sport?

Title IX was a great step in supporting women in sports, yet we see how society continues to display such disinterest and less opportunities for woman athletics to grow. How can college athletic departments support woman athletes better? #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@iitzel_nandezz @KatryaLy I agree with your statement. This is why I have seen that in recent years the education system has been trying to get this exposure done at a younger age like Tk & K. I hope in the future it continues. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

When schools have a diverse group of people amongst, faculty, coaches, students, and athletes. The students benefit from being exposed to getting to know others and creating a more welcoming environment @KatryaLy #UCR50

Racial diversity is critical to the environment of student athletes. The more diverse it is the more they can thrive in community and make better connections to the campus. How do coaches help minorities achieve community? #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@GigiDuarte_7 @KatryaLy I agree that this narrative is old and just overplayed. I think it doesn’t help too that the media keeps emphasizing this image, making it worse. Coaches/dean should stand up for these athletes. @abhornUCRedu #ucr50

This painted narrative of “dumb jock” is old. Athletes already have a biased stigma because they’re undermined by academic performance from professors. Professors shouldn’t treat a student any less, the issue should be pressed with coaches/dean, not students. #UCR50

It is disappointing to read how stereotyped student athletes are especially considering all the stress they endure. There should be a bigger advocacy towards their mental health as it can push young minds towards substance abuse. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@_alexander222 @KatryaLy It may be possible that banning these universities will impact the number of students applying there. Instead, maybe NCAA should creating better regulations for the education part. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

It was interesting to learn that there is controversy around paying college athletes. I do agree that college athletes have a hard experience but there should be an enforce on regulations that concern burnout. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@ImDario27 @TA_ED50 This was my initial thinking as well. It’s crazy to believe college coaches make so much when they are only a part of the campus. There’s so much staff that is overlooked. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

Reading about college coaches salary is astonishing in comparison to professors. Coaches are valuable to campuses considering the revenue brought by sports but at the end of the day college campuses are ran by professors teaching. #ucr50 @abhornUCRedu

@ImDario27 @TA_ED50 I can see why this statistic would be almost crazy to witness. As college students, education should have always been prioritized. I’ve seen this trend in high school as well with athletes. @abhornUCRedu #ucr50

Coaches are a crucial part of a student athletes life. It is hard to determine what kind of coach is hired; if they are just for the money. This often put student athletes at risk of burning out. Can the NCAA standards be up to the changing for the better? #UCR50 @abhornUCRedu
