one thing i realized rewatching tadc was that jax actually wasn’t an edgelord groyper when she first entered the circus. she got it from ribbit, who was the one who first taught her to stop moping around and stop taking everything so seriously. jax was basically gangle until she became friends with ribbit, and that’s why she meant to much to her. making edgy jokes was a way to keep ribbit’s memory alive after she abstracted.
