An Arab tourist who came for the World Cup is amazed by the little piece of Mexico he filmed in the neighborhood near Estadio Azteca while waiting for his ticket. He’s genuinely enthusiastic about everything, especially all the colors he sees. It’s funny because over the past month, I’ve mostly seen negative comments on X about the bad state of CDMX and how the city is not ready for the Mundial. I’m not the best judge of that. My point is that the eyes of a stranger are often less judgmental and more ready to be mesmerized by anything, even things that may seem ordinary or imperfect to locals. It reminded me of my first months in Mexico. I was also in a constant state of awe about everything. Mexico might not be perfect, but it’s certainly unique, and Mexicans should be proud of it.
