Delighted to announce that my book ‘#GeneralBrasstacks : The #SundarjiStory’ (@PenguinIndia ) is published and now available for purchase on online platforms (Amazon.in) and bookstores. Years of research, travel, meeting sources, archives, writing, editing…finally makes it to print - a definitive #biography of arguably the most influential #Military #leader in India’s recent history. A legacy both celebrated and debated. Who was General #Sundarji? What was his link with #MahatmaGandhi? How did he influence Prime Ministers #RajivGandhi & #IndiraGandhi? What was his role in the controversial #Bofors deal ? Thanks to my publishers for work on the book - @PenguinIndia and @mileeashwarya @sorcerical @kan_writersside

Shameful and utterly condemn the lack of civility. When you invite someone and don’t show up, that’s lack of civility. I don’t care if Miranda House is a top institution or not. Lack of manners and being disrespectful of guests is what this incident reeks of. Sorry, there cannot be a debate on this. The absence needs to be called out as bad form.

To the Principal, staff and students of Miranda College, Delhi University, you need to respect the Chief Guest you invite for your events. I was there for a no show! I have posted the videos and pix here so that you learn that tardiness equals to disrespect. No staff and 4-5 students. Flow chart & evidence posted

After reading the book on General Sundarji, General Brasstacks by @iProbal, you could say that the General's senior military career could be described as "One Crisis After Another"...

#GeneralBrasstacks : The Sundarji Story - about the only military chief in India who influenced India’s political events and decisions for an entire decade. A rarity in democracy across the world. The book is available online (Amazon), airports and in bookstores.
Jo 🇮🇳@JoBeingjoe

General Krishnaswamy Sundarji remains one of the most visionary and transformative leaders the Indian Army has ever produced. A soldier-scholar with rare strategic clarity, he redefined how India prepared for and conceptualised modern warfare. One of his most enduring contributions was the creation and nurturing of the Mechanized Infantry—an idea revolutionary for its time. By integrating mobility, firepower, and protection, he ensured that infantry could keep pace with armour, transforming the battlefield dynamic from static engagements to fluid, high-tempo operations. Deeply influenced by the principles of Blitzkrieg, Gen. Sundarji advocated speed, surprise, and concentration of force as the keys to victory. His strategic vision centred on swift, integrated offensives—where armour, mechanized infantry, and air support could operate in synergy to overwhelm the adversary before they could react. This clarity of thought and resolve was evident during the Sumdorong Chu standoff, where his leadership ensured a firm and calibrated response to Chinese assertiveness through rapid mobilisation and forward posture—signalling both deterrence and restraint. In the forbidding heights of Siachen Glacier, the Army’s posture in the late 1980s, including operations around 1987, reflected the same emphasis on boldness, logistics, and domination of key terrain. Sustaining troops and executing operations in such extreme conditions demanded not just courage, but the kind of doctrinal foresight and organisational drive that leaders like Sundarji had institutionalised. At the same time, history views certain chapters with a more critical lens. The conduct and aftermath of Operation Blue Star continue to be debated for their political-military handling and long-term consequences. Similarly, Operation Pawan exposed the complexities of intervention without clear political objectives, intelligence clarity, and unified command—areas where even a forward-looking military leadership found itself constrained by larger systemic and strategic ambiguities. His leadership during initiatives like Exercise Brasstacks showcased doctrinal innovation in action—highlighting India’s capability for rapid mobilisation, deep thrusts, and operational surprise. Gen. Sundarji’s legacy, therefore, is both inspiring and instructive—marked by bold reforms, intellectual depth, and a willingness to push boundaries, while also reminding us of the complex interplay between military leadership and political direction in shaping outcomes.

General Krishnaswamy Sundarji was destiny’s child author @iProbal tells @SandeepUnnithan in this fine and #mustwatch interview about the man, his brilliance and the controversies around him during the 80’s. These details and more are discussed in his new book General Brass Tacks. I knew the General well - he was kind to a fault. It bothered him that despite #Bofors being an excellent gun, the corruption scandal around it sullied our country and the army he was so proud of.

If military power subjugates a lesser adversary, the political outcome of war can be dictated by the dominant force. However, if the lesser force does not capitulate to the projection of power by the stronger entity, then both sides in the conflict have equal chances of leveraging the outcome, i.e., dictating the politics of war. Iran now has an advantage in the politics of war that determines its narrative. #Israël #IranWar#iran #Trump

#IranWar‌ - If the #Pakistán ceasefire talks fail, the war leaves Iran with a hardened stance on every issue — from oil to nuclear weapons. If it succeeds, it leaves Iran with the spoils of war. My column ‘Beyond The Lines’ in @firstpost firstpost.com/opinion/beyond… The US plans for boots on Kharg Island throw up a dangerous parallel to the Russian experience at Stone Island in its war against Ukraine. Russian troops landed on Stone island to face ferocious counterattacks by the Ukrainians. The barren features exposed them to waiting Ukrainians, who struck the Russian forces, depleting their chances to hold ground. What was the outcome? The Russians lost hundreds of troops and faced an embarrassing withdrawal. The Americans could face a similar fate. @srikantkesnur @YashMor5 @SuryaGangadhar6 @AwaaraMusaafir @nikhapte @vvssays firstpost.com/opinion/beyond…

@LaxmanShriram78 @SandeepUnnithan Wonderful, thanks. Do share your review and thoughts on it after you’ve read. Yes, it was covered by all magazines. 1980s was a high octane period for media with all the action around them.
