I’m devastated today to have learned more about a child I once wrote about in a poem published in the NYRB in March 2024. (Later published in my book Forest of Noise) When I wrote that poem, I didn’t know her name. I didn’t know her father’s name, her age, or exactly when and where she was killed. Now I do. I know she was killed alongside her father by an Israeli sniper. I watched the video again, and I read the account in an investigative report published by BBC Arabic in August 2025.
