humanity is not afforded to black people. that isn't adhering to white supremacy ideology; it is just our reality.

I mean on some level people don’t think Black ppl are worth caring for Bc the tone is “he can’t help it!” I accept that he can’t help it, I don’t accept that nothing can be done to mitigate the violence or that because it’s involuntary it’s not violence at all

the connection between the minimization of violence of the n-slur and white people as the “victim” of inconvenience (whether that be homeless people, loud music on the subway, or black people voicing about harm)

@PattesSouris And how thinking about speech clinically (intentionalist) at the expense of socially (structuralist) isn’t necessary. We can’t attend to how harm landed on those Black folks being called, or how an individual’s symptom is not their alone, without denaturalizing the utterance

@PattesSouris Don’t apologize! I feel thought “with” 💗 My understanding is that coprolalila reaches for what the person finds most unspeakable. I am encouraging us to think about the gentleman’s tic as revealing something about the social mind as opposed to (only) his.

white dude w/ Tourette’s who screamed the N word can’t be faulted for failing to control his associations/verbalization. And, his speech implicates this World, of which he is a part. And, this World is a problem for Black peoples. He’s an easy target. And, no language is neutral

On 1 hand, disability is dunked on to score easy points for identity politics girlies who need to see sensational violence to feel anything. And on the other, disability is used as a cudgel to wall off the anti-black unconscious of the world. Both suck! Let’s think 💗

@Feldfrog I think intent & impact are impossible to disentangle when talking about anti-blackness. Intent is not the prerequisite for racist language to do what it was intended to do. This is not the fault of John Davidson, but we do not have to cleave them apart to defend him.

final thought, michel büch’s “whiteface: improv comedy & anti-blackness” N* “encapsulates white subjectivity in the entirety of its historical legacy… [it] is the ultimate pathway for reasserting [one’s subjective existence]… even the act of imagining the word functions as…”

There are things that can be called the N word & there are people who can call it. 2 sides (“shush he didn’t MEAN it) + (“WTF muzzle that guy”), same coin: a deep denial of the anti-black unconscious. brains are real. and, there is no equal right to free speech or free thought.
