@presbycast So his position is that no one with ongoing experience of same-sex attraction should be ordained? That would be contra the PCA’s AIC report as well.

Andrew Brunson on the EPC's choice: "As a missionary, I understand the difficulty of sharing the gospel with a culture that does not share our values. Yet in our desire to be missional, we must not forsake the truth of Scripture or abandon the unchanging commands of God. ...

Just finished (re)reading A Better Story by Glynn Harrison, and now starting The Pilgrim’s Regress by C.S. Lewis. This might be my final book of the year.

@revpmr @aaron_renn It’s the sort of metaphor that those who agree with his conclusions will find helpful and those who simply think the line should be in a different spot will find helpful less helpful.

From @aaron_renn newsletter yesterday on what he calls the “tax attorney hermeneutic” of scripture, "what’s the absolute least amount I have to do in terms of having differential practices around gender roles in order to stay compliant?" Read the article in the comments.

@brothernelson These are helpful distinctions Jared. I can totally see how the shepherdess title can come off as an attempted end around of the polity (though I'm not convinced this is the intent in the circumstances I'm familiar with).

Summary: To push against unordained deacons, women deacons & using the term deaconess: If the first two arise in your church or presbytery, address it head on. The third scenario would benefit from persuasion, especially face to face, though persuasive media should be valid too.

RE: discussions about deacons and women’s ministry in the PCA, especially as questions come from those outside looking in, we need to make some distinctions of what is in the debate is for the church courts and what is for persuasion. Let’s do this by exploring three scenarios.

Super glad they changed the enforcement of the time wasting yellow in time to send off trossard last season and not Silva for the exact same thing in the exact same game state.

Pretty remarkable testimony from Charlie Kirk’s wife Erika. Clear gospel proclamation in the midst of unimaginable grief,

@scottjwillis I am really surprised these ideas don't have more traction. I think it would reduce the impact of subjective referring decisions in a game where the margins are so small. The idea that we give a 75% of a goal from a marginal foul in the corner of the box seems strange.

Spicy soccer/football rule change I’d be curious about: The player that is fouled for a penalty must take it, for handballs it’s the player that shot/passed before foul. All penalties not inside the 6 yard box should be taken at the spot of the foul

We don't need a love that affirms us. We need a love that affirms what is good in us as creatures, that rescues us from the bad we have made of ourselves as sinners, and that elevates us to a good beyond our wildest dreams. That's the kind of love God offers us in Jesus Christ

@cbradedwards Thanks, Brad. This is a sad moment in the PCA. Your comments remind me of the revoice scandal, which shook lots of people's trust in the church courts. Even if we disagree about engaging this particular story, I trust we are both praying for the church and her courts.

I try not to comment on anything I don't have a baseline knowledge or understanding of - especially when it involves how events/conversations unfolded within institutions I'm not directly involved with (e.g. the most recent PCA controversy). IME, the more certain and "concerned" one is about inner workings you can't possibly know about, the more likely you are to be wrong. Friends, pump the breaks, wait for more info, and model good presbyterianism for your congregations by letting the process play out. Our process is slow by design. You don't serve Christ or his Body by jumping to conclusions, nor do you persuade anyone who doesn't already see it as you do. TLDR: because Jesus cares more for his Bride than all of us combined, you can leave that tweet in your draft folder.

@YankeeGunner One question you didn’t ask that I’m curious about is whether he thinks Notgaard could effectively be used to shore up the midfield to hold onto leads late in games. Potentially as a six or eight.
