Masterclass What a perfect way to end my last session! Seeing our senior athletes with so much passion to pass on their knowledge to the younger swimmers who were like sponges, listening in and 'staring at what they want to become!' Fantastic session

Pete Carroll said, "It's about being the very best you can be. Nothing else matters as long as you're working and striving to be your best. Always compete. It's truly that simple." Excellence is the mindset, it's not the destination. Don't crave for success, but aim for excellence in everything that you do. When you strive for excellence, success follows. ✅You have to be committed. ✅You have to compete. ✅You have to give your best. Excellence isn't a one-time event, it's a journey. It starts by winning today and then tomorrow and then the next day. 6 Ways to Win The Day with Excellence: 1. Set Clear Goals for the Day Goals provide direction and a sense of purpose. Measure your performance and make sure it aligns with your values. Goals don’t always have to be big and broad, they can be daily cadences or weekly expectations, but they give you a target to aim for. 2. Own your Mindset, Own your Actions Take ownership and responsibility for yourself and your mindset. Adopt a growth mindset and believe that your abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and effort. Take responsibility for your thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Challenge self-limiting beliefs and replace them with empowering ones. 3. Compete with the You of Yesterday Each day, strive to outperform the person you were yesterday. Challenge yourself and look to improve, learn, and grow every day. The comparison should not be outside of yourself, but it should always be to your previous self. Progress becomes a testament to your dedication and growth journey. 4. Embrace "The Power of One More" As Ed Mylett calls it, harness "the power of one more". When you feel like you've reached your limit, push yourself to do one more task, make one more effort, or take one more step toward your goals. It's in those moments of extra effort that significant progress is often made in the mind and body. 5. Will Yourself Every Day with Resilience Embrace the mindset that setbacks and failures are opportunities for growth and learning. - Expect that there will be setbacks. - Expect that there will be adversity. When you try new things, you develop the ability to adapt and grow stronger. 6. Reflect on How to Improve and Win Tomorrow At the end of each day, take some time to reflect on your achievements and setbacks. Celebrate your wins and identify areas where you can improve. Set a plan for the next day. Continuous self-assessment and planning are essential for long-term success. Growth becomes a daily habit when you combine discipline, perseverance, and intentionality. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is a habit." - Socrates - - - Follow @coachajkings for more content like this!

Anxiety and fear of failure leads to the avoidance of the situations in which they occur. When it comes to peak performance situations, avoidance will lead to a significant decrease in risk taking and creativity. We need the freedom and courage to push forward and dare to innovate in order to reach our full potential. The viscous circle of avoidance kills any form of uniqueness. Our mindset is important when it comes to the ability to peak perform. To ensure peak performance for ourselves, or our team, we have to be able to create an environment which is facilitating. An environment that promotes growth, by learning through trial and error, is the best environment we can set for ourselves or our team if we want to promote peak performance.

Dan Campbell said, "Grit is when you have the ability to overcome adversity in any situation. The ability to push through it, mentally, physically, to overcome. I think that's what grit is." Grit is passion and perseverance for your long-term goals. Grit isn't talent or luck, it's the ability to have stamina and endure. Grit is a mindset that you grow and build over time. ✅It allows you to believe in the potential of tomorrow. ✅It brings you opportunities for growth. ✅It makes you resilient in times of adversity. 5 Ways to Develop More Grit: 1. Discover Your Interests - When you know what you are interested in then it makes doing the work easier. Recognize your genuine interests and passions. Know what you care about and where your mind wanders because passion forms the foundation for your grit. 2. Define Your Goals - When you know where you are headed and why, then it makes getting there easier. • Remove distractions and define your priorities. • Define what goals you want to hit and WHY. Then set stretch goals because you want challenging objectives to test your grit. 3. Practice Deliberately - The key to grit and growth is being detailed and intentional about what you do. • Concentrate deeply on your work and practice. • Understand how to get into a flow state and be consistent about your practice. Regular, purposeful practice is essential for skill development and grit. 4. Create a Support System - In any journey there will be obstacles so create a support system led by yourself and supported by others. Practice optimistic self-talk by updating your beliefs, removing negative self-talk, and developing a positive inner dialogue. Also, set up an external support system from mentors, coaches, or peers. 5. Reflect and Grow - Developing resilience and grit is a long-term journey so constantly look to reflect, get feedback, and improve. Seek feedback on your performance and look to improve. • Developing a growth-mindset is the best way to develop grit (especially for children). • It is not about the end result, but constantly striving to grow and improve "Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint." - Angela Duckworth - - - Follow @coachajkings for more content like this!

Vince Lombardi said, "Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence." Mark Twain said, "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear." Confidence comes from inside you. Confidence is not about being perfect or never failing. It is about having the courage to try, to learn, and to grow from every experience. Confidence is the feeling that you are capable. ✅It comes from your preparation. ✅It comes from your thoughts. ✅It comes from your self-talk. ✅It comes from doing tough things. Your confidence grows as you accomplish goals, push through obstacles, and prepare yourself for what is ahead. 4 Habits That are Killing your Confidence: 1. Failure to Start - This is the state when you constantly doubt yourself. You know what needs to be done, but don't do it. Examples include rumination, overthinking, and procrastination. This habit paralyzes you, fuels self-doubt, kills confidence, and leads to self-criticism. 2. Failure to Commit - This is when you don't stick with your commitments. Examples include failing to finish what you start, getting bored, or not going anywhere. This habit leads you to doubt yourself if you did the right thing. It ultimately leads to hesitation. 3. Failure to Enjoy the Journey - This is destination obsession. It's when you always put pressure on yourself and tell yourself that you should be "doing more". Examples include comparing yourself with others or thinking there is always more to be done. This habit exhausts you and burns you out. 4. Failure to be Yourself - This habit involves constantly conforming to others' expectations or trying to be someone you're not. Examples include wearing a mask to hide your true feelings or denying your own values and beliefs. This habit not only erodes your self-confidence but also leaves you feeling disconnected from your true identity. “Health is the greatest possession. Contentment is the greatest treasure. Confidence is the greatest friend.” - Lao Tzu - - - Follow @coachajkings for more content like this!

PARENTS: Whether your child is starting, coming off the bench or barely playing, enjoy being a parent to an athlete. Be positive & always make it about the team. If done right, the process of parenting an athlete is rewarding for both your child & you. Youth sports are valuable.
