Most Android devs ask what an on-call does during a live event. You can't ship a new APK to millions of phones mid-stream to fix one bug. Fair. That's why the risky code never lives in the APK. It lives behind a config flag and an experiment. On-call isn't deploying anything. They find what's breaking and flip the flag, while the stream stays live.

Setup used to be the Android gatekeeper. SDK paths, emulator crashes, Gradle errors before line one. That gate is now gone. The skill that matters next is knowing what to build. Taste is the new bottleneck.

Reset my whole system in one chat. Todoist for execution. Obsidian for context. Both connected to Claude via MCP. Told Claude what was going on in my head. It read the vault for background, set up the projects in Todoist, parked the dormant ones. The AI wasn't doing my work. It was doing the work between my work.

Haven't shipped one yet, but KMedia has been on my radar for a podcast side project. Wraps ExoPlayer on Android, AVPlayer on iOS, has caching baked in. If video matters too, you'll probably end up doing expect/actual over Media3 and AVPlayer anyway. The all-in-one libs tend to give you the lowest common denominator. What are you building?
