@drlesleybarron @mrnigeldsouza Need to see evidence….Is evidence based on CT proven diverticulitis, tender mass fever or those referred as diverticulitis but only have LIF pain, no fever & not tender. Wouldn’t Abx speed resolution of inflammation/pain & return to normal. If I have diverticulitis I want IV Abx

@mrnigeldsouza It’s evidence based but it going to take a huge cultural shift to apply that evidence. Much more than would be required to introduce new active treatments. Patients will tell you about diverticulitis attacks they self managed at home with no antibiotics in my experience.

A survey with @mrnigeldsouza of @ACPGBI members in 4 home nations show 95% of regions (69% after pandemic) use FIT in high risk symptoms in some form. Interesting that 41% think FIT increased investigations! 40% want national guidance (🤞coming out soon) doi.org/10.1111/codi.1…

In a good moment. This week: Last night shift ✓ CCT ✓ House packed ✓ Flying out for 🇦🇺 fellowship @SydneyLHD ✓ Love surgery, but it is tough and 🇬🇧 training is long. Thanks to everyone who helped me get through. Especially my family and wife Charlotte. ❤️

In data published in @ColorectalDis from the @nicefitteam study led by @muti192 @RMPartnersNHS: 1103 younger (<50) patients had “high risk” 🚩 bowel symptoms. But cancer was the cause of symptoms in only 1.5% of these patients. 51.3% had normal colonoscopies. 3/

Early onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) in younger patients <50 is a very very difficult problem. We worked with @kevinjmonahan and @Lisa_Wilde from @bowelcanceruk to see whether FIT could help avoid delayed diagnosis. The results were interesting... bit.ly/3i7iOvd 🧵
