@Al0hasnakbar @_sn_n notice how he said conservative and not republican? There are people alive today who were alive to support Jim Crow. They vote Republican now, sorry to break that news to you

@_sn_n Wait, it was the democrats that voted against civil rights for blacks. Learn your history cracker! Now you're all sad because black people are waking up and leaving the democrat plantation in droves

@lamonte_vince @LesBowen How stupid do you have to be to think that a supreme court decision regarding race based gerrymanders has nothing to do with race

@LesBowen You think this kind of take makes you feel superior… creating a racial issue where there is none and feigning outrage about it…. It does not make you appear superior it makes you look like a self absorbed fool…

Ya know, growing up in the South in the ‘60s and ‘70s, one thing I would not have predicted is the dismantling of the Civil Rights era in the interest of “fairness” to white people. A lot of good people bled and died for those gains.

@TwitCensors @SADDAY_EVERYDAY @JonnyAtTheShore @DrewSav there aren’t enough asian-americans in most states to warrant that, but there would be a good reason to have a Latino district if you could guess partisanship 90% based on race alone in said state

@SeminoleScout7 @thebenfromMI @squiglybigly69 @BeshearStan the fact that the republican maps just cut the biggest cities into pieces to dissolve their populations into republican districts just means that the Red way of gerrymandering looks nicer while having the same result

@thebenfromMI @squiglybigly69 @BeshearStan Lol yeah. That's retarded. Anybody who lives in Illinois knows that far more than 5 seats are gerrymandered. As far as gerrymandering goes in general, Texas will be the only conservative state with an insane looking map.

Now that the worst has come and Section 2 of the VRA is gutted, Dem trifectas in safe blue states need to start fighting back and push these maps immediately

Today's VRA decision is intellectually dishonest and wrong. The conservatives basically said: Black people can vote for their preferred candidates, as long as they prefer the right candidates -- which will be Republicans. An absolutely mockery of the law and stain on the court.

@Hypermav77 @liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @marceelias I’m sure you feel very righteous about your side of the fence. Remind me why Florida wants to change its map so that 57% of the voters get 85% of the seats? And Tennessee and Missouri and Ohio and North Carolina?

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias The maps might look nicer, but the intended result is to lower the proportion of black representatives in a ~33% black state from 1/3 to 1/6. I suppose we just have a fundamental disagreement on what fairness is

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias The only way this logic holds is if you pretend that southern states are going to draw maps that actually ignore race, but they won’t, because they never do. They will draw maps explicitly to diminish the voting power of black people.

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias And in fact, given that your reasoning is that they’ll still be able to vote, why do you care about gerrymandering at all? The white people in those states who are being discriminated against still get to vote as things stand, so what’s the issue?

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias I honestly want to believe you’re someone who is well meaning but idk how to explain to you that redrawing the maps to replace black politicians with white one is discrimination. It’s just the kind you’re fine with because it doesn’t affect you

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias Outside of all the obvious ways in which black people, on average, have worse access to economic resources and are treated worse on personal levels, YOU WANT TO MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO HAVE REPRESENTATION IN HIGHER OFFICE.

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias Because we live in the real world and they aren’t treated like any other citizen. and your desired result doesn’t treat them like any other citizen. It treats them like people who need to be denied higher office because they’re not on your team.

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias Well that aren’t going to do that. They are going to explicitly split up black voting populations so that more white conservatives get into higher office. You don’t have to pretend like you don’t prefer that outcome anyway by hiding behind your 1990’s race blindness

@ndeutsch23 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias The only reason there are black majority districts is because they unconstitutionally gerrymandered their maps to do so. To revert this, we must not consider racial demographics when drawing maps.

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias I’m glad that you’ve evolved past the rest of us, but that’s not how this works. If you redraw the maps TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO BLACK REPRESENTATION IN CONGRESS you are thinking about race when you are drawing the maps

@liliceberg1of1 @Aquaflare387 @Hypermav77 @marceelias Gerrymandering is not performed nation wide, it’s performed state wide. You’re mad that the 40% of black people in certain states aren’t allowed to be segmented into 10 different districts to ensure conservative whites have all the power, because it doesn’t help your side win

@Aquaflare387 @ndeutsch23 @Hypermav77 @marceelias I hope you know you sound ridiculous. Our country is only ~60% white and whites are pretty much split down the middle on right/left. You’re mad because you can’t racially gerrymandering for the 13% who votes 90% democrat, because it helps your side win
