The communist manifesto is an actual literal pamphlet that's pure ideological content, it's a conclusion first call to action, with no actual material analysis. Marx wrote a big ponderous tome on economics which was in direct conversation and developing on Adam Smith but the communist book on capital is a notorious slog, and even card carrying communists often admitted to at best only skimming through it. Few today even among people who call themselves Marxists even bother to pretend to have read it. Stuff written by Lenin is easier to work with because he wrote basically organizational tactics manuals. Stalin occasionally also wrote an article or two, of similar nature, for example he really impressed Lenin with his paper (although some say like trotsky probably suggested it was ghost written or plagiarized) on socialism and the national question which went on to be highly influential as it was put into action and basically that essay is why the national borders within and around Russia look they way they do. Quotations of Mao is easier to work with because everything in there is boiled down to quite literally tweet length, and it was kind of designed to get semi-literate and illiterate peasants caught up on the state ideology. But basically none of this stuff requires a very sophisticated reader to understand. It's also of questionable value under present and local conditions. Lenin, Stalin and Mao, whatever may be said of them, were men very sensitive to the political conditions of their own time, and wrote with the intent that their theories be turned into praxis in the immediate term. Today the writing is more valuable as historical context, and their practical applicability to the 21st century is dubious at best. Leftists as a whole suffer more acutely from stuck culture than conservatives do. They're not really generating a new political synthesis, they're posing with the symbols of centuries old politics and calling it progressive. It's genuinely played out. Capitalism today functions significantly differently from how it did when Marx was writing. Modern American conditions bear little resemblance to the conditions of revolutionary era Russia or China beyond the most superficial. But still people cling to those relics, regurgitate their rhetoric, and keep forcing their models even in the face of their having been visibly outmoded. The posture of geriatric radicalism is just the narcissistic self loathing of complacent decadence sublimating itself as something fashionable and socially conscious. It's so tired. It's more subversive to pose for a picture with a book of Mormon.

Something not frequently mentioned about this case. She had a wildlife biologist appointment at the NPS. Placing my students in that equivalent position is one of the hardest and most competitive places to get your foot in the door. Especially when you have a very specific wildlife specialty like bats. Then this girl used her “disability” (god only knows what that would have been) to get a non-competitive hire to a more permanent, benefitted position that could have eventually become the equivalent of tenured. On top of all that, the switch to the better gig came with 2 years of probation, which she couldn’t even wait out without dropping the transgender flag over El Capitan with a gang of activist goofballs. If you work in a land or a wildlife agency, you’d have to be nuts to hire this woman. Between the made up illness to get perks and the poor impulse control, it’s unreal that she landed in the NPS when I can’t even get veterans placed there.
