I almost lost my 11k follower X account to the smartest scammer I've ever encountered here's how they nearly got me yesterday I got a DM from "Shelby" claiming to be from techcrunch professional profile, verified checkmark, 11.7k followers she wanted to feature me on their new AI podcast series my ego was flattered big mistake #1 the conversation felt legit: → professional language → mentioned my "expertise" → offered to send specifics via email → wven signed off with her full title everything screamed legitimate opportunity but scammers bank on your vanity then came the meeting request "Let's schedule a 30min call to discuss further" she sent a Google Calendar link to book the meeting seemed normal and I clicked without thinking big mistake #2 instead of a calendar, I saw this: "Authorize Google Calendar to access your account?" WAIT why would scheduling a meeting need twitter access? red flag #1 the permissions were INSANE → see all posts (including protected) → follow/unfollow accounts → update profile settings → create/delete posts → manage lists and collections this wasn't calendar access this was FULL account control but here's the genius part: the URL looked legit at first glance most people would see "calendar[.]google[.]com" and trust it but I instantly spot it... "calender[.]google[.]com" CALENDER and not CALENDAR just one letter off classic phishing domain this scammer was GOOD if I hadn't caught that ONE letter typo, they'd own my account right now here's what they would've done next change my password/email DM all my followers with crypto scams post pump & dump schemes destroy my reputation potentially sell access to other scammers your follower count makes you a target stay paranoid RT this to warn others scammers are getting scary good at social engineering never let ego cost you everything 🤣
