@CappyGrowth Yeah it can be quite common. The divergence can get quite bad.
And depending on how you view and frame numbers it can get masked in the data.

Canada's technically in a recession now, with two straight quarters of slightly negative GDP.
I'd be careful with that word though.
The Q1 leg barely clears zero, quarter to quarter StatCan calls growth basically unchanged, and the industry based measure of GDP was actually positive.
That doesn't mean things are good.
Business investment has fallen five quarters in a row, housing's weak, and the only reason per person GDP ticked up is that the population shrank.
So it's less a sudden downturn and more of a slow grind.
It's an economy that's been stuck for a while, which plenty of people have felt regardless of the quarterly numbers.
Canada's not alone in this.
