On here, I used to use fake female/male identities thispersondoesnotexist.com). I included fake affiliations. It was creepy of me. I want to see if people's reactions to my tweets changed based on others' perceptions of me. Forgive me. I'm faceless now to avoid preconceptions.

At 26 years old I just finished my Ph.D. In Industrial Chemistry (Never thought I’d achieve this as a Nigerian living in Nigeria). I’ve published 5 research papers, still working on 5 more with 3 already under peer review. I haven’t even started achieving half of what I want !!

My first job after fellowship I was on call for 3 hospitals which covered 2 states and I would work the entire weekend. Some consults needed hands on interaction. Others I was going to place a ureteral stent and needed to just discuss the procedure. This would have been helpful, imo.

North Carolina Hospitals have deployed these telepresence robots These allow doctors to interact remotely with patients. A real human doctor is operating this remotely and speaking with patients Yes, this is real. This is so dystopian North Carolina hospitals deployed these to combat doctor burnout and staffing shortages at some locations

It turns out that when people that were at the top of the class, and were required to endure extreme self-sacrifice for 15+ years, and start their first real job at age 35, that they do in fact want to be able to live in the nice neighborhood along with the corporate types.

Boomer here. I bought my first house after ten years of saving like crazy. And the interest was 14.5%. I don’t know where kids got the idea that they were due a house and new car at college graduation, but that’s NOT how it ever was.
heretical lakeloon@loonlake55

Too many young people are resenting Boomers, claiming that Boomers had it " easy " financially in their youth. Here are a few fun facts about growing up Boomer. 1. Almost everyone grew up with one bathroom. Mom, Dad and all 3-6 siblings. 2. If you did get to take a vacation, you drove. With no air conditioning. No cup holders. No iPads. Just black vinyl seats and bologna sandwiches. 3. There were no club sports. No Parks and Rec activities. Summer camp was for rich kids. Get yourself a bike, a stick and a few friends. If you were bored, you laid in the grass and looked at clouds. 4. You ate what was served. Even if it was chicken livers. No DoorDash, no backup Totino's rolls. 5. No AP classes, no PSEO, no "fun" elective. They assigned you to a class. You went. You did what they asked. Or else. 6. Unless you had rich parents, you had a nice VFW wedding. Maybe rent a room at a modest hotel. 7. Most Boomers got their first pedi and mani in their 50s (when their feet got farther away). We didn't even know people got massages in real life, only in Hollywood. 8. You packed your own lunch for decades. 9. No one knew what red light therapy was, a facial, a spa day, or a cold plunge. Your gym was the YMCA. Usually in a rather old building. 10. We grew up with 18 percent inflation, 14 percent mortgage rates, 3 million continuing unemployment claims, and 200 other applicants competing for the same job. Now, this is not to say Millenials and Gen Z have it easy or don't face problems. It's just to say, nobody has it easy or doesn't face problems. My only hope, as my mom would say, is I live long enough to see my kids' kids complain about how easy they had it!

Talk to girls at parks. My last long term relationship was 3 years. I was walking to Gold’s Gym in DC and saw this girl sitting on a bench. I just went up to her and that was it. Many such cases. Be respectful. Don’t say weird things, have good eye contact, speak slowly, and DRESS WELL. Don’t approach people looking like a homeless person. How you present yourself matters. For everything. And if she says she has a boyfriend or not interested, say “Okay take it as a compliment. Have a great day” and leave. Sometimes girls are mean. Sometimes it can be awkward. But she could also become your wife. It’s maybe 30 seconds of awkwardness that could turn into a lifetime of a meaningful relationship. Take chances. Cowards don’t build the life they want or get the girl.
Linda Chen@linderps

a guy approached me at dolores park yesterday he was nice. respectful. sweet. i told him i had a bf. he said thank you and left but a few minutes later i couldn’t stop thinking about it how rare it is these days for a guy to have the courage to approach and risk rejection so i went back to find him i told him i really respected it, and encouraged him to keep trying he admitted that it's a bit nerve-wracking but he does it because he doesn’t believe in dating apps so i took his number and want to help him: he’s 24, tall, good looking, works in tech, very sociable, and is looking for a girlfriend dm me if you want to meet him or send this to someone who does :)

there are ~0 pure bullshit jobs in private sector knowledge work, but there are many jobs where you decide how bullshit it is. you can choose to be a zero-value-add process node, but you can also just fix random things that are broken, come up with new ideas, or help people

My favorite tweet of all time has since been deleted, but it was a tweet by Sasha Chapin about how “if you like meditation, you should try prayer and see how that feels.” Seeing that tweet during my lunchbreak on a random weekday afternoon inspired me to try praying, and the experience of being heard during praying led me to believing in God, which led me years later to experiencing a spiritual rebirth, which led to me getting sober after a decade-long struggle with alcohol and drugs. I drank for the last time in September 2023 and from that point on I replaced alcoholism with running. I ran 385 miles by the end of 2024 (including 3 half-marathons) and lost 40lbs along the way. I highly recommend replacing your bad addictions with better ones! What I am continually struck by is how small the first domino in this chain of events was. A single tweet. Sent off with the intention to provoke thought or share an idea, but I am sure the author was not thinking "oh yeah, this is going to completely turn someone's life around." Well, it did! Life can change for the better much quicker than you think when you believe in something with all of your heart. And isn't that beautiful? God is good!!☺️

@maureent71 Not to mention the romanticizing of parenthood. Yes it’s beautiful and amazing but it’s fucking hard. I worked in daycare, and I still didn’t grasp how hard caring for a child is mentally and physically 24/7. I could write a novel on why that statement is bullshit

I’m disappointed to say that I didn’t match into neurosurgery this year. Not the end of my journey, just an obstacle. I am passionate about this field and I am committed to becoming an excellent neurosurgeon. So I will be taking a post doc position and applying again next cycle.
