I managed to take down my entire server with a personal project. 😅🚨 A rogue Java app caused a silent but major outage on my GCP VM. I wrote up a quick post-mortem on how I found the culprit, fixed the mess, & what I learned so it never happens again. 👇 otee.dev/2025/07/08/per…

What’s the difference between testing 🧪for bugs and searching 🔍 for bugs? Property based tests search for unknown unknowns 🕵️ without relying on the programmer’s ability to enumerate test cases. Hear more in my recent talk 👇 youtube.com/watch?v=5tCzdk…

Yesterday, when the #UAE was celebrating #EmiratiWomenDay, my sister was crying in my arms in a hotel room in Abu Dhabi after a series of events.

How to tell if your github profile is mid (for juniors). - No pinned repos - All JS - Pinned repos are projects from some course - Movie browser - Food ordering website - README written by CRA or equivalent When I see a repo like this, you know what I see? Fear. I see your fear of the future and your reaction being to just tick the boxes. Github profile - tick. React demo - tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. What do I not see? Love. When I see a README that was written by a build tool, I know you don't love your work. When I see you build stuff that someone else says you should build, I can almost know that you don't love yourself. If you don't want to be mid *build something that you want to see exist in the world*. When you were building that restaurant website, did you *want* it to exist? I know you were just learning. So was I. But somehow I cut my teeth on building stuff that I just knew had to exist. It's possible. I've seen developers write portfolio trackers for themselves, a cron job monitoring tool that covered some missing use cases that were important for the creator. A young web dev who made a music website so she could share playlists with her friends. When I see this, I see love. I see the developers exercise their right to want what they want, and to want it deeply enough to sacrifice for it, and then to sacrifice some more to craft it well, write a README they can be proud of, just because they are building something with love, for someone they love. What you want, as a junior, is to go work for a boss that loves programming. A ghuta-hua nerd. They exist. They are awesome. And they are dying, looking for juniors who love their craft. It used to be easy to find developers who loved their craft. The web was such an 'out there' thing that it only attracted the pioneers. Now the whole place is flooded with people, which by definition, makes the whole place mid. If you love programming and you're surrounded by people who are ticking boxes off a list, it is easy to think that that's the way to be. I want to tell you, to assure you, that programming what you want is a far better strategy to finding a good boss than making the same projects everyone is making. The best bosses do not want order followers. They want curious minds, passionate minds, minds that serve a higher truth than 'get a job'. And my job is to solve this very problem. And I am tired of your mid github repos. Put your phone down and look around, learn to want again and then go build what you want. Put the vibration of desire in your work.

Important & horrifying thread - getting your purse stolen in a foreign land (UK) which carried your residence permit etc And having no empathy or help from London police despite clear CCTV footage (including the thief’s car number). @IndiaNetherland @metpoliceuk

The UK is often seen as the pinnacle of the first world. This is a story of how Indian tourists were looted of their identity, in the city of London in 2023. 1/16

The hotel staff saw the CCTV footage of the thief and called the @metpoliceuk and we were told verbatim that they noted the case down but due to shortage of staff, they will not be able to come to visit 7/16

My wife put her purse beside her, on the same chair that she was sitting on. Exactly one minute later, she was looking for my Kindle and noticed her purse was missing. 5/16

@mogverse I’m hoping the temperature dips a little in the coming week here in Kolkata. So it could (🤞) be around 16 degrees in the evening. A light jacket/sweater would suffice!
