@Megamom1985 I hope you don't mind me coming along to Holy week. Officially I am Anglican, and attend my neighbourhood Anglican Church, but I love the Orthodox Liturgy. If I lived closer to the Orthodox Church I would convert. I promise I won't sit at the front or snaffle the feast.

Holy Week brings out the worst in me. People that can’t find the time for liturgy on a regular basis seem to feel the urgency all the sudden. Especially if a special meal is being served. The church becomes packed with people, some who treat the liturgy like a spectacle they enjoy seeing, then leave when the rush of energy gives way to somber prayer. Others arrive, take all the seats, and leave with their Easter baskets blessed before the celebration even begins. If the people who seem to think this is somewhat important made an honest effort at just showing up and giving their financial support to the parish, there would be room for everyone and then some. We could have a new, bigger building that reflected the beauty of the faith, and the community that sustains it . But instead we crowd and fight unfamiliar faces for front row seats to a spectacle they acknowledge exists, but won’t make time for otherwise. Lord have mercy on me, a sinner.

@Megamom1985 Also, as someone who does fundraising, a lot of those CEO Christians contribute very generously, and help keep the lights on more than the average parishioner. Paradoxical but true in my experience.
