@Slav636 @DrPeering when i first used Interactive Systems Corporation 386/ix it was based on System Vr2 and had the AT&T/USL cron utilities, which i had earlier encountered on HP-UX, and which had many features i missed when using BSD. so i wrote my own, which then went into 4.4 BSD and later Linux.

@DrPeering @paulvixie Flashback! Vixie cron! The first one I used, on Interactive Unix!

Hey hey hey! We’ve got an actual Internet Exchange person on that star-studded list! Stanford students - don’t miss @paulvixie when he comes into class to speak! Mind you, I’d also make sure you’re in attendance for those other speakers!

My favorite part about Stanford is finding random classes that end up having insane speaker lineups

hey @brave i had to downgrade to 1.73.89 on suse leap; the 1.73.91 upgrade broke dashlane and facebook. JFYI.

i hope to see some of you at Elbsides in Hamburg, coming up September 13. @elbsides elbsides.eu/2024/

@ben221199 2/2 qclass must be a real zone class, not a meta class. ANY is a meta class.
English

@ben221199 Seems like a bug. S4.7 says intended to be identical to but does not mention ancount. S3.2 says ignore messages with nonzero values if unmentioned. This means ancount in responses must actually be ignored no matter what its value. Good catch.
English

Hi @paulvixie, I got some questions when reading RFC 1996:
- Should the ANCOUNT always be zero in the response? Or should it be the same ANCOUNT as the request?
- Is QCLASS "ANY" allowed?
If confirmed, I may submit an erratum for this RFC.

@anjanr99 @Perpetualmaniac Also noting, Windows NT and modern derivatives like 10 and 11 all descend from the ideas of VAX/VMS which had the levels of privilege for the OS: kernel, executive, and supervisor. Loadable drivers were at the weakest of these and could be forcibly unloaded if they misbehaved.
English

@anjanr99 @Perpetualmaniac Exception handling and smart pointers work differently in the kernel. Very difficult to unload the breaking kernel driver while in interrupt mode. No other recovery would have helped. When running in the kernel, some errors simply must be avoided.

@FrodeHommedal i think the hard liners currently driving russia's choices and actions have a bimodel world view: anyone who thinks russia shouldn't try to expand its borders is automatically cast as trying to destroy russia itself.
to those people, six doctors is a price worth paying.
English

Russia killed these 6 doctors when they deliberately attacked a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
Read this sentence a few times.
Is that a world you want to live in?

@9600 a lot of disaffected voters never felt as seen as they did during the first trump presidency; many feel strongly that he is their last chance for political relevancy in their lifetimes. doesn't matter whether that's true. optics matter. don't despair, but, "yes."
English

@paulvixie Is there really a chance of him becoming president again? I despair.
English

when someone tells you who they are, _believe them_.

@networkservice @mtaht it's not like that at all. BSD is a rainbow coalition; there is no centrality of opinion. nothing like systemd could happen in BSD, because consensus just cannot occur. we can barely keep our alignment on just license terms.
English

@paulvixie @mtaht I would argue you want someone with the barest of FreeBSD code base experience.
otherwise you’d have hired the person with the skills and “appropriate” opinion on how to do the Thing you want
English

I hope Netflix finds this BSD networking person, because I would love to meet him or her, myself.

@Ubiquiti it appears that i must download your UI Verify app in order to authenticate myself to my own devices. if you'll let me use my existing google or microsoft authentication apps i'll be happier. it's a multi-vendor standard. i don't want your app on my phone.
