It’s not that you’ve been betrayed by Trump; you made a deal, in your head, with a man who doesn’t exist. If you buy a car from a used-car salesman and later realize he sold you a broken transmission, he didn’t “betray” you, he duped you. You got duped. He never committed not to cheat you; you just unthinkingly assumed he wasn’t going to. It’s like going to a loan shark expecting to speedily pay off the interest.
