@simonbwilks @The_Grumbler The EEP initiative is well meaning but misguided. There are 3 times as many kids in pathway cricket aged 10-12 now which should be great for club cricket. There needs to be an elite group in each county age 10-13 to fill the gap. Some counties are already looking at this.

@premcricketstat @The_Grumbler Just serves the dual purpose of weakening the standard across the board while giving state school kids even less chance. In reality the best players tend to come through club cricket and parental encouragement. Surely the earlier they are exposed to a higher standard the better

@simonbwilks @The_Grumbler This - binned off CAG before 13 so top level state school kids aren't exposed to high quality cricket before 13 whilst private school kids have much better access and coaching. I think it's going to prove to be a massive own goal

@The_Grumbler ECB answer is to move rep cricket to u13 at the earliest which makes no sense. Now elite players miss out on playing other counties due to vague concerns over elitism. Also how many are privately educated due to being on cricket scholarships after showing promise in club cricket?

Should a Premier League club be allowed to take a 4 year child into their academy ? Thoughts people

The issue is that batters who receive quality 1-2-1 coaching perform better & continue to perform better. Batting is really hard & great coaching is so vital

@premcricketstat @ECB_cricket @Chance2Shine @LordsTaverners @_MCCFoundation @AceProgramme @SACAUK I guess the success/failure of the new system will be by how much coaches/selectors make 'allowances' for state schoolers who won't have played/trained as much. Coaches know that performance now is a poor judge of what perf at 18+ will be, but often perf now is the #1 priority.

More & more the focus for those kids has to be on club cricket & playing with adults in as high a standard as possible.

Great for inclusivity, but state school boys & girls that were good enough to get into county 11s have now got a watered down offering & have to compete harder those that can afford elite coaching.
