Hegseth inadvertently makes clear that Trump wants Ukraine to be beaten. He is asked why Ukraine has done better than he expected last year, and he blames that on the armaments that Biden sent to Ukraine, and says that was an outcome Trump would never have allowed. In short, he is saying that Trump wanted to create a situation in which Ukraine would be defeated. Trump’s FCC chair, Brendan Carr, says he plans to punish and potentially revoke broadcast licenses for TV networks critical of the Trump administration: “I’d be surprised if we don’t go down the path of license revocation for some. Trump and Putin just spent 90 minutes on the phone together. Ninety minutes. That is longer than most marriages last before someone throws a plate. We don’t know exactly what was said. We never do. A photo opportunity and Trump, naturally, backed the initiative.  Because why wouldn’t he? It costs him nothing and sounds tremendous. Putin also offered to help secure Iran’s nuclear material. Russia. Helping with nuclear material. The Kremlin also made sure to warn Trump about “damaging consequences” if he renews the Iran war. So Putin is now issuing warnings to the American president. And the American president is apparently taking the call. Ninety minutes. That is a lot of time to be told what to do by a man who arrests his own generals. Here is what history tells us. After every one of these conversations, Trump emerges slightly more confused and considerably more dangerous. The next few weeks will involve at least one unhinged announcement, one ally publicly humiliated, and one idea so spectacularly stupid that the entire national security apparatus will spend a weekend trying to talk him out of it. I'm watching Pete Hegseth testify and anyone who does so with an open mind, will readily see that he is a caricature. He has delusions that he is starring in an action movie. He is arrogant and ignorant. His narrative never has any depth. He speaks as if what's good and what's right are not even complex subjects, or debates borne of perspective. He loves American Exceptionalism but believes that it's only defined by musculature and pomposity. He couldn't care less for us being a shining example for others, or a force for a greater good. He couldn't care less for sharing strategy or being accountable. He creates lasting disdain for America on a global level like few others ever have and make no mistake - this disdain will permeate for generations. He doesn't present arguments. He doesn't share justifications. He doesn't care for transparency, and the only thing he cares less for than that, is humanity. As a behaviorist, I can feel the things he's been accused of - like alcoholism and misogyny and reckless sharing of info - underlying his attitude and every utterance, and you can feel how unapologetic he is for any of it. He is a brazen politician serving an audience of one. He is a Made for TV concoction, and a vacuous mishmash of hormones and neurotransmitters. That he's running the US Defense Dept. is incredibly dangerous and disturbing.
