@meganmichelle He was a nut. I can’t wait till you get to the part when he was in Africa. I had to read some of his speeches for a class, and yeah. He’s bigger than the Beatles but also very strange.
@meganmichelle There’s a whole lot of lore around Gandhi and I’m grateful you’re taking it on. I’m learning things! I didn’t realize he was wealthy. I didn’t realize he was from a sepoy family.
@meganmichelle I got to introduce you to a word. Sepoy. Though they were infantrymen during the Mughal period, the meaning had expanded to include anyone who works for outside government. Ghandi was a sepoy.
@Martyupnorth Lord have mercy that is a wreck. I’m sure he did his all to avoid a crash. That poor man.
I’ve seen a cow moose irl. She was huge and gave me a scare. But she moved on as soon as we crossed eyes. And so did I. I try not to tangle with moose.
@meganmichelle For sure! I think it’s a travesty of the commons that people who dream big and go to Hollywood or NYC are exploited and we never see their beauty on the big screen cos some nepo baby got the gig. We’re missing out on a lot of talent.
@redcakecat i am fascinated by it. especially their desire to cover the wealth up. they are so obsessed with sounding poor, it's the give away to me. poor people would have no problem sounding wealthy. like what are you even doing?
@meganmichelle A humble sweet factory owner. Lmao. Anyone in Big Sugar is rich rich rich.
I wish these people were more leaning into their wealth. But studios want to sell the story that you can “dream big” and “hit it off”. They’ve been doing this as long as film was a thing.
@meganmichelle Yep these people would have married similar class. Can you imagine their parents allowing a lower status marriage?
As an aside, one branch of my family lost wealth in the war but made it back, in part, doing the family trade. Class is remarkably stable across generations.
i recently did von Trapps. They claim they lost their nobility and literal torpedo-inventing money during the war. Then happened to become a worldwide pop sensation.
Audrey Hepburn claimed the same thing. She became American Hollywood royalty.
I don't believe it, not a bit!

@meganmichelle Also these biographies are edited by the estates of these people. They seem to love bragging about their wealth, like this example, though it is a circumlocution. Just say his dad was wealthy lol. A wealthy pencil maker lmao. 🤣
@meganmichelle I agree with your thesis. Barring world war, where wealth is expropriated by the state, wealth is inherited. But most of your biography work predates 1918 anyway!
For the Huguenots, in general, only the wealthy could afford to be protest-ant cos they could afford to read.
@Cernovich Picked up my copy via Amazon. Abe books had it used for $327 USD. Looking forward to reading.
Happy Easter to your family, Cerno. Much love.
Cydonia is one of those books you have to read, or don't bother. "What is the summary?"
Glad to see it's back available. Used to be impossible to find except as a used copy for hundreds of dollars.
