The bandwagon of oil shorts out there is running out of time to take a very important decision: 1️⃣ Close the position and walk away swallowing a painful loss 2️⃣ Deliver the physical crude oil to close their May 26 futures (Good luck buying anything spot if you don’t have the inventory already) 3️⃣ Roll the short position into June futures that is currently equivalent to a “Buy high / Sell low” trade netting an immediate loss because of the persistent steep backwardation As far as I can observe: 🚩 Most of the market is still hanging on the hope that the current war in the Middle East suddenly ends and it all snaps back to normal while, objectively, the situation keeps worsening. 🚩 Most of traders risk management strategy relies on Taco puts to save everyone’s day when the whole market wobbles too much ⚠️ Conclusion: The closer we get to the 21st of April the higher the chances the oil futures price snaps up vertically not only closing the gap with the Spot, but likely running well beyond that because of the panic covering of all oil shorts out there betting against reality (and common sense)
