@rinddsam @specs @Snap Bold move. The winner won’t be the hardware, it’ll be the UX. Tesla won because EVs became easier and better to use than people expected.

i was an early Tesla adopter. almost everyone i knew made fun of the car, doubted the vision, and waited for me to regret it. 10 years later, ~90% of those same people drive a Tesla. my takeaway: most people genuinely don’t understand how hard hardware is. tried Snap’s new @specs irl at AWE yesterday and i’m honestly in awe. they’re one of the most advanced gadgets in the glasses space right now. obviously a long road ahead, but huge respect to the team for shipping something this risky in an almost impossible category. this is what building looks like 👏

Seemingly unpopular opinion: I don’t hate the new Snap Specs. Are they bulky? Yes Are they affordable? No Do they look cool? Debatable But this isn’t the final form. This is like saying early computers are too big and too slow. Yes, that’s true. But you can’t build the small, fast computers on V1. Or probably even V10. Snap knows at this price point this is a niche product. I’d hope it’s a stepping stone to a smaller, more affordable form. Judge this version of Specs on its ability to get to the next version. Lastly, I like big swings, even if it means you strike out. It seems like we live in a consumer world of minor optimizations. I want more products that will change the world. But to do that, you have to take big risks. And big risks mean more failures.

contrarian take: the internet’s first reaction to something new is almost always wrong - people hate on new designs then become the biggest fans (i.e. airpods max, cybertrucks) - meta raybans functionality is primarily for photos and videos - wearables are going to look different on everyone so focusing on flattering one person (even the ceo) doesn’t make sense - sometimes you need to sit with something and let it cook (i.e. taylor swift albums after the first listen) also it’s usually the same people who come back when something’s hot and say they were always day ones

I have traveled all over the world and SFO is by far my favorite airport. Nowhere in the world I can check-in, pass through security and get to my gate within 7 minutes (mind you this is during World Cup and high season)

@DividendGrowth sometimes making the money is not the issue, it’s keeping/maintaining the money and this is a prime example of that

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…
