i was an early Tesla adopter. almost everyone i knew made fun of the car, doubted the vision, and waited for me to regret it. 10 years later, ~90% of those same people drive a Tesla. my takeaway: most people genuinely don’t understand how hard hardware is. tried Snap’s new @specs irl at AWE yesterday and i’m honestly in awe. they’re one of the most advanced gadgets in the glasses space right now. obviously a long road ahead, but huge respect to the team for shipping something this risky in an almost impossible category. this is what building looks like 👏

the mainstream narrative most people see right now is: - AI stealing jobs and causing layoffs - AI creating slop art and ruining culture - AI is bad for the environment and data centers are destroying cities - AI leaders are too rich to care about the average person’s struggles then tech bros are shocked when normal people (especially women) feel intimidated, disconnected, or skeptical meanwhile the most relevant counter conversations are happening in long technical papers, niche X threads, boring podcasts, and group chats they’ll never see crypto, investing, frontier tech (male-dominated industries) have this exact same communication problem btw Reese has always been ahead of the game here

The NYT is predictably tearing down Reese Witherspoon for encouraging moms to try AI before they ingest the anti-AI pablum as truth Instead of linking to the NYT op-ed, I think you should watch this video and encourage you to follow Reese Witherspoon on Instagram

you can’t compete with people having more fun than you…& that’s Carry Ankur is one of the most thoughtful + intentional founders (from product to brand to hiring), and I learned a ton from this team 🤍 grateful I got to be part of it + excited for what’s next!!
Ankur Nagpal@ankurnagpal

Carry has been acquired by Angellist and Lettuce We started this company 3.5 years ago to help business owners make better financial decisions These two transactions allow us to continue to do this important work in a bigger way Thank you to everyone who supported us ❤️

career decisions are not permanent! the biggest mistake you can make isn't picking the wrong job, it's evaluating jobs in isolation saw @pmarca's career advice & it's so spot on, portfolio careers are the new meta your career is a portfolio of bets where you have to evaluate risk/reward/skills/network potential, and there are times when one may be worth outweighing the others that pivot? might create a role that doesn't exist yet startup equity gamble? might 10x your “safe” salary moving to a new city? might change everything sometimes work for a specific person or team compounds more than the title & yes, sometimes an unpaid or imperfect opportunity is the thing that finally gets your foot in the door you’ve been trying to unlock (i know, i know, so controversial!) @garrytan said it best: if you aren't learning or making money...why are you still there? and if you aren't even having fun?? we literally spend most of our lives working stability is admirable, but asymmetric bets are how great things happen

this interview is exactly what happens when you forget there's a general public that exists outside of your narrative… ai (especially chatgpt) is having it's cultural moment > the average person likes using it > but they really really really dislike like the idea of AI replacing humans so to choose to talk about parenting?? one of the most human experiences??? they had a shot at such an easy layup here and totally missed - btw you 100% have a story prepped before Fallon so someone on the team really thought they ate with this which is why it’s sooo important to have people in your ear who can read! a! room! without being blinded by their own perspective > someone culturally tuned in >ideally consuming content outside the tech bubble & honestly this is a huge reason why we’re building @spec in the opposite direction, to focus on fixing the annoying admin that sucks up your day (making your apps actually work together) so you can go be a real person

Timothee Chalamet is on a generational run & I'm seated. He's treating each press tour like a distinct era & I haven't seen anyone else do it like him (If you want an audience to pay attention, you should be following this). For Marty Supreme, he's world-building through DIY spectacle + platform native content: - live streams are treated like mini films x fashion campaigns - easter egging his audience, teasing them into his sports era (ESPN College Game Day, front row at NBA playoffs, "greatness" award speech) - embracing internet native culture & interviews - creating visuals/artifacts that you immediately associate with this film, even if he himself isn't in the shot (pingpong balls, orange, windbreaker) Is this the future press, launches, and campaigns will go?
