I just listened to this young woman, and I have to say: it’s rare on X to hear someone speak with such sincerity. Listening to her, it’s immediately clear there is a real person behind this account – thoughtful, genuine, and speaking in her own voice. @lorenzokamel I've heard "resilience" critiqued as well, but never this clearly. There's also the question of what word or concept to use in its place. "Sumud" is a new word for me, and some of the English synonyms (which include resilience, but also perseverance & tenacity) seem useful.

A lit publishing friend said her company screens submissions for the likelihood they’re AI, and turns down subs with high likelihoods. Ironically, they’re using AI to do this and don’t seem to understand that, in doing so, they’re giving AI more content to digest and train on. Now add to the mix this high degree of inaccuracy and you get writers submitting original content that’s being used without their consent to train AI which prevents them from earning a living from their personal work. Humanity can’t keep going in this direction.

@arisroussinos I think they're both exquisite writers—just two very different writers. Having said that, Woolf (my favorite of the two) comes off badly in this haughty, classist assessment of Joyce.

Genius it has, I think; but of the inferior water. The book is diffuse. It is brackish. It is pretentious. It is underbred, not only in the obvious sense, but in the literary sense. A first-rate writer, I mean, respects writing too much to be tricky; startling; doing stunts.”

There is a division of labor in which the hard work of writing mostly gets delegated to the g/w. But the hard work of thinking everything through remains, and is shared with the client. There are no shortcuts.

@ConversationUS (2/2) In ghostwriting as it *should* be practiced, there are no such shortcuts. My clients and I talk through and think through every aspect of the book. It's a highly collaborative effort that feels very much like a co-creation. There is no cognitive offloading.
