I genuinely don’t understand this: 1. Google AI Mode has access to tons and tons and tons and tons and tons and TONS of sites that ChstGPT and Claude can’t access 2. If you’re in Chrome it is one million times easier to use the search bar for a query 3. It is objectively better for all local and navigation searches Not using Google anymore is literally just using the internet in a worse way. Not even picking on Signull I’ve seen plenty of “tech forward” people say this. It makes no sense to me.

I was just talking to an engineer about the importance of managers being willing to disagree and commit to a technical solution their tech lead feels strongly about. Even if the manager is being pulled more to another solution. There are usually several ways to implement a solution. Some solutions are measurably better than others, while others come down to personal preference. Occasionally my tech lead is pulled to one solution and I’m pulled towards another. As their manager, I could force them to do it my way but that erodes trust and takes away the engineer’s autonomy. So if I can’t pinpoint a meaningful reason to do it my way, I disagree and commit with my engineer. They’re closer to the code than us managers and if I’m honest, they usually know best. Especially in my case where my engineers are very senior.

The greatest skill you can acquire is to learn to have a really good time by yourself. And that does not mean binge watching Netflix, or scrolling on social media. That is you trying to escape yourself and your life. But spending time doing things where you are actively involved like cooking, playing music, reading, learning a new skill etc. People who can do that well also make for great friends, colleagues, neighbours. Their cup is always full so they come out into the world with good energy. They are not seeking someone to make them feel better, instead they are the person who makes everyone else feel good.
