OK so I have lived in America, Holland, China and am from the UK so I can speak to this. This isn’t true. What struck me was how extreme the differences are in wealth and how stratified the class system is (contra the self-conception).

@sithshat @theashleyray OK. Tbf I would probably expect LA to be cheaper than Paris anyway. But I think the broader point is that there's a culture among some Americans to always stay in chain hotels, Hilton, Marriott etc. Whereas in Europe there's almost a prejudice against that. Not everyone obvs
