Today In Star Wars History… Starkiller is Announced! On April 7, 1976 — Variety Magazine officially reported that Mark Hamill had been cast as “Luke Starkiller” in Star Wars — a name that would soon evolve into Luke Skywalker. Early drafts by George Lucas featured “Starkiller” as the hero’s last name, but it was changed during production to give the character a more hopeful, mythic feel. The name wasn’t lost to history though — it later returned as “Starkiller,” the secret apprentice in The Force Unleashed. At the time, Hamill was a relatively unknown actor… but this casting decision would help shape one of the most iconic heroes in film history. Dave Filoni gave a mandate to the creative team of MAUL - SHADOW LORD prior to departing for AHSOKA Season 2, says executive producer Athena Yvette Portillo. “What he had said to us prior to his departure to Ahsoka Season 2 was, ‘I want to elevate everything visually. I want to elevate the animation. IMAX went mainstream in 2008 with The Dark Knight. But it’s been a part of many people’s lives since going to the local science center as a kid. What’s changed is IMAX converting to digital and dismantling most of their 70mm projectors, and digital cameras now being good enough to be featured on 70mm / GT laser screens.
