As much as I’m a fan of twinkl, I bloomin hate these SPaG sheets! In fact I’m not a fan of SPaG homework at all. Teach it in the context of writing!! Anyway, rant over. Any ideas with this please?

@benwohl Nonfiction? Find a suitable publisher. Download their proposal form. Fill it in. They’ll want table of contents, sample chapter, and breakdown of target audience. Knowing an author with them doesn’t hurt . There’s not much money in it though. (10% of revenue on 2000copies?)

@IAmKatharineC Break the space into 6 or so panels. One key idea in each. Don’t worry about getting in every detail - it’s there to draw people in. Rather than be read line by line. you’ll be there to answer any questions. Make everything readable from 2m away.

I'm currently doing a poster presentation about my MSc research. Condensing 10,000 words down into the key facts is a challenge! Has anyone got any top tips for clear and interesting research posters?

@whaleygeek @Average_Maker I wasn't being sarcastic! I can remember using the original Bourne shell that didn't have that feature because we ran v7 on the PDP-11s because the only had 1M of RAM rather than the outrageous 4M of the VAX running BSD.

I continue my argument against the Linux 'way' of doing things this evening. Apart from having to mess around with slashes for spaces and so on, this bullshit crops up tonight as well. Just let me move the damn file you awkward bastard!

@bankofengland Liking the suggestions for Franklin and Hooke. As long as its not Lovelace it’s all good. (Though given her drug abuse the £50 is kind of appropriate).

@issyhowie @bankofengland Why would you put Lovelace anywhere near the other two? As you note, the others made great contributions. Yet for Lovelace you just throw out her name, because she’s “sort of famous”.

@veryalien There are versions in sniff for arduino and flotilla. Got your email. I’ve been tied up on other project recently but I’ll get you a copy of the code Tomorrow.

@sniffCode I'm looking for the sniff source for the flotilla matrix 8x8 LED games: Snake, defender and breakout. These were first done for Arduino? Or was that not in sniff? I think there are microbit versions of defender and snake in release 30, are they essentially the same.

@MarmiteJunction @Gadgetoid Blocks are great when you don’t know what you want.... but typing and learning syntax is the easy bit of programming! Otherwise you end up with a Chinese’s typewriter!

@Gadgetoid Yeah, my experience of playing with Scratch was pretty much this: Pros: Stuff is hidden Cons: If it's not hidden, it's MASSIVE

@digitalmaverick Pretty sure every 15yr old can figure out that an ‘assessed element’ that doesn’t contribute to mark is actually non-assessed element => is not an element.

Am *really* worried about the status & future of Computer Science as a GCSE subject now that Ofqual have confirmed students doing the exam in 2020 must also spend 20hrs (10wks) to complete the NEA th at will not count for the final marks

@pknighton67 @Baggiepr @MWimpennyS Nothing wrong with blocks conceptually. In fact sniff proves how expressive scratch is. But blocks are just too slow/bulky for larger progs. Chinese typewriter!

Here's something I've observed... Youngsters don't seem to be able to use the cursor keys, instead always using mouse to move the cursor, even when only moving a few characters back/forwards or up/down a few lines. Makes editing programmes quite slow and tedious.
