@gabby_on_E @despair It is certainly possible but can be difficult in many cases. They added DOTS for a reason, to make Unity code optimisable. GC spikes were a major problem for many games in the engine 10+ years ago, and they still are depending on what you're doing.

The craft of making software is well alive, because the software interaction actually matters, rather than merely being a way to deliver the user their requested data

@andy_matuschak another way to see it: non-game apps see users as friction-minimizing economic animals, focusing on efficient input -> output. games flip that: the output is the experience. there’s no other destination. the joy lives in the ui itself. that’s why games feel much closer to art.

Confused: exciting new UIs seem rare in large part because inventing them requires both programming and imaginative design skills. It’s rare to find both in one person, and hard to coordinate in a dyad. But then: why does this kind of invention seem more common in games? If true, shouldn’t this be a problem in all design sciences, like architecture?

@stickyfr0gg @sonofdadkiller Does speed change your accuracy? Seems hard to hit things while moving, but that could be intentional. Though it's very hard to TELL that movement is making my aim worse - it took me 3-4 times in the small hallway level to realize standing still was the only way to hit the shots
