congrats @amspector100 @bfspector @aidanmantine! these lads are hungry and their aura is unmatched. fun fact #1 is asher had the highest midterm score of any stat110 fall 2018 student (I believe). fun fact #2 is ben did not eat any vegetables until he turned 19 so he has some experience pursuing unconventional ideas

I'm very passionate about making technical concepts accessible to students in Cog Sci, a major that straddles diversity of interests & backgrounds. It's an incredible gift when someone makes difficult concepts exciting enough to tackle. Thanks Prof Blitzstein!

Today I gave a lecture on probability theory in my first ever course as a college professor. I am a cognitive scientist, not a statistician, and I teach research methods. It was only thanks to taking @stat110 with Joe Blitzstein that I ever understood probability!

The folks at @ISBA_events tell me my book Statistical Rethinking has won the 2024 DeGroot Prize for its contributions to "statistical inference, decision theory and statistical applications". This is huge honor especially given the previous winners, who have influenced me so much

@matt_blackwell But all models are fiction. :) Measurements are discrete, but some concepts (temperatures, heights) are more intuitive to model as continuous, no? Btw I like this helpful & cute animation by @stat110, Anqi Zhao, and their team: youtube.com/watch?v=iA0xRU…
