I’m surprised what’s happened in Switzerland isn’t a bigger story.
An entire town wiped off the map by a glacier collapsing, likely as a direct result of our warming climate.
This is like something out of a disaster movie.

What really scares me about the enormous landslide in Blatten is that we will have to expect many more such events in the future. Glaciers recede, permafrost thaws and mountains become unstable…

@drdesign_llc @moxfyre @sainimatic Probably also had to stop the aperture *way* down to match depth of field of regular shots. A 10-second exposure time would not surprise me. So for, say, 15 seconds to be output at 24fps (360 total frames) you’d already be at one hour just for shots, without motion control.

@moxfyre @sainimatic I have heard it is to let the movement of the stepper motors settle before exposing a frame. (To eliminate any shake.)
If this is inaccurate please let me know too.

Fun trivia: Ridley Scott was among the first to shoot miniatures with smoke, to simulate large atmospheric scale. Motion control can take several seconds or minutes to expose each frame, so the smoke fluttered when playing back the final shot. To solve this, SFX supervisor /1

@featherytravels Gotcha! I'm there about once or twice per week over summer, and always take the time for a quick stroll and admire the bergs... they are different every time!
