At some point, someone in the Trump admin gets found in contempt of court, then -
gets a presidential pardon, presumably? then -
the end of the rule of law?
How does this go?

New: The Trump admin has been ordered by chief US district judge James Boasberg to show up to a 4p ET hearing today and clarify whether they defied his court order compelling the return of deportation flights of suspected Venezuelan gang members

@StevenSalzberg1 I just want people to agree on whether there's a "chr" prefix or not!

The human chromosomes are numbered incorrectly (The fourth in an irregular series of threads about #Bioinformatics.) As most people know, 22 of our chromosomes are numbered from longest to shortest, plus we have X and Y... 1/6

@gwern @misha_saul I just assumed that a sensitive sense of smell made it harder to live in large groups. And that large-group living had some survival benefit around that time.
Poor dogs! Imagine being bred for a sensitive nose and also having to live in close proximity indoors

@Meaningness How do we represent knowledge for a retrieval-only LM? Don't tell me we have to dust off all that GOFAI machinery?! 😱

@balajis “‘Hallyu’ is the term that Asians use to describe the tsunami of South Korean culture that began flooding their countries at the turn of the twenty-first century. […] The Korean government has promoted hallyu, using it as a form of ‘soft power’”

Was K-pop a government op?
Not my area at all. But this piece claims (with citations?!) that K-pop was backed and nurtured by the Korean government to boost their soft power.
If so, it worked.

@MOCDA_ @fi_lor @KnownOrigin_io I’m not the artist; from a quick google, looks like it’s @kak_dc

Surrealization is an artist in search of the whimsical. His work suggests a great interest in AI and a keen attention to details.

Saw this picture of Russian radar decoys near the Kerch bridge and thought of the video explaining corner retro-reflectors from @MouldS

@anshulkundaje @dana_peer @dagarfield Is the tooling you’re wanting more a matter of visibility (showing you what you’re spending on what) or of setting limits (project x has a budget of $y this month)? Or something else (e.g. detect idle instances)?
English

@dana_peer @dagarfield Yeah I have started investing once again in our local clusters as well. I am done with the cloud for the proximal future, unless & until I see strong cost management tools built to SAVE $$s for the average academic lab.
English

@emollick @Noahpinion It lowers the initial budget request. You sell a short mission for $X million to congress. Then, when that’s complete, you say “well, the rover/telescope/etc. is already out there. We might as well spend another $Y million keeping the program running.”

@ianholmes @monimunozto @scottjcain @apollo_bbop @usejbrowse Thanks Moni and Ian! Hearts and appreciation to both of you. That is the latest (ha) code link, yeah. The demo is still up:
