How to explain on-chain allowances to a non-crypto spouse: "I set up automatic payments to [kid]'s account. It runs every [frequency]. I can pause or cancel anytime from my phone." That's it. No blockchain jargon needed. The tech should be invisible.

The web3 UX problem isn't wallets or gas fees. It's that we keep building for crypto natives instead of normal people. "Connect wallet, set amount, done" should be the standard. Not "stake your governance tokens to vote on the fee structure."

Allowly.app deployment stats: • Build time: 1 hour • Files: <10 • Backend servers: 0 • Database tables: 0 • Cron jobs: 0 • Missed payments: 0 Sometimes the best architecture is no architecture.

Allowance methods ranked by effort: 🥉 Cash: Find bills, remember weekly 🥈 Bank transfer: Open app, type amount, wait 2 days 🥇 On-chain automation: Set once, forget forever The best system is the one you don't think about.

One-off transfers are easy. The second payment is where products become real. That’s why we built Tributary: recurring payments on Solana, live since Oct 2025 @xeroc/why-tributary-is-raising-on-futarchy-5cf228b3c9e9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@xeroc/why-tri…

Crypto parents: At what age did you (or would you) give your kid their first wallet? Curious where people draw the line.

The hardest part of building Allowly.app wasn't the code. It was resisting the urge to add features. "What about spending limits?" "What about chore tracking?" "What about savings goals?" No. Ship the core. Iterate later.

Controversial: Most "web3 for kids" products are just web2 with a blockchain logo. Real web3 for kids: → They hold their own keys → They see real transactions → They learn by using, not watching Anything else is theater.

My 12-year-old now: • Has a Solana wallet • Understands USDC vs SOL • Checks transactions on-chain • Asks about gas fees All from receiving automated allowances. Best unintentional education ever.

Things I deliberately didn't build in Allowly: • Transaction history (use Solscan) • Notifications (check the app) • Analytics (not needed) • Premium tiers (it's free) • Multi-child dashboard (make multiple policies) Scope creep is the enemy of shipping.

If you could automate ONE recurring payment in your life, what would it be? For me it was allowances. What's yours?

5 reasons on-chain allowances beat traditional methods: 1. Never forget (automated) 2. Instant settlement (no 2-day waits) 3. Full transparency (kids see the tx) 4. Programmable (pause/resume/cancel) 5. Educational (learn by doing) Which matters most to you?

Prediction: In 5 years, "allowance apps" will be a category. Not because crypto is cool. Because automated, programmable money is objectively better than manual transfers. The UX just needs to catch up.

Before Allowly: "Dad, you forgot my allowance again" After Allowly: "Dad, I got paid automatically, can we check the transaction on Solscan?" The second conversation is infinitely better.

What "no backend" actually means: ❌ No servers to maintain ❌ No databases to migrate ❌ No API keys to rotate ❌ No uptime to monitor ❌ No scaling to worry about ✅ Just a static site + Solana The blockchain IS the infrastructure.
