The government announced plans to cover 1/3 of newsroom labour costs for Bell, Rogers, and Corus. Doubling the Labour Journalism Tax Credit scope is worth tens of millions of dollars and would insert government tax support into nearly all news operations. michaelgeist.ca/2026/04/the-go…

What could be wrong with the City of Calgary replacing water meters with advanced metering technology across the city, and implementing variable or tiered water rates? Nothing is ever free, tax-payer funds are used to replace the 10+ yo meters. Yes, they will reduce human efforts to read meters and enhance billing accuracy, with greater frequency of meter reading. Some say it will also improve leak detection, yet we all know that the real leaks are the 20%-25% that the city looses due to aging infrastructure. But the real kicker is that citizens did not vote for this change & it is "mandatory" for all properties per the Water Utility Bylaw (no opt-out allowed). And this is where things can go really wrong. State provided smart meters can also be used to remotely reduce or restrict, to the point of cutting off, water services. In a low trust society, this has to be one of the most draconian socialist moves the city can make. Most home owners are used to paying flat rates for actual water consumption; but these meters enable variable rate & Tiered-Rates, like time of day billing; don't listen to the so called water restrictions, pay a fine in real time. The City has clearly stated they want to tell us how much and when we can use water, a scheme called conservation-oriented rate structures. Big families/homes pay more, and shortage surcharges during droughts/restrictions. Welcome to the new tyranny where you shall thirst and not quench. Reduce by 20% or pay fines for being a bad citizen. Albertans are clamoring for FREEDOM, and the City of Calgary says we don't need to fix our mess, you just need to drink less. @DanWMcLean

I voted NO to the Water Efficiency Plan. Here's why. Over 3,400 Calgarians responded to our survey. More than 90% opposed the Water Efficiency Plan as written. Only 3% supported it. Yet, the plan passed by a vote of 10-5.  Between 2003 and 2016, per capita water use dropped over 30% through education and voluntary conservation.   This plan introduces mandatory watering schedules, $200 fines, and enforcement that Calgarians did not ask for. The disconnect is clear. Fix the pipes. Trust the residents. Arguments for the plan centred around its 'good' parts relating to infrastructure investments. My position is that we can make these investments without an overreaching trojan horse. THANK YOU to all who participated in the survey, you did NOT go unheard. We have seen in the past where Council had to walk back their decisions due to public outcry, I hope we are not heading down that same path where we as Council and Administration think we know better than the residents whom we represent and serve. #yyccc #yycpoli #calgary #yyc

🚨 Fake Doctor in Auckland Hospital Exposes Massive Risk to New Zealand For six months, Yuvaraj Krishnan treated patients at Middlemore Hospital using completely forged medical qualifications. He wasn’t caught by background checks — he was recognised by a colleague who knew him from years earlier, when he had already posed as a fake medical student at the University of Auckland. This wasn’t a one-off. Sophisticated document fraud networks in India are mass-producing fake degrees, transcripts, and professional certificates for jobs and student visas abroad. From massive fake degree scandals involving tens of thousands of bogus qualifications, to migration agents specialising in forged documents — the problem is global and growing. Now, with New Zealand’s new India FTA removing caps on Indian students and fast-tracking skilled workers, the risks are about to skyrocket. How many more unqualified “doctors”, nurses, and professionals are already here — and how many more are coming? Read the full article exposing how weak verification systems, organised fraud, and open-door policies are creating a serious threat to patient safety and trust in New Zealand’s immigration system. 👉 @beehivebadboy/note/p-195808164?r=86qdtg&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@beehivebadboy… What do you think — is New Zealand prepared for this? Immigration in Canada has reached the heights which no ever thought was possible. Canada has now started denying entry at the the Airports after landing. This is to curb the asylum seekers, not just youths but even parents are getting the same treatment. Please be very careful and ensure you have a proper plan if questioned at the immigration 1.) Have return tickets (for your own safety) 2.) Keep documents handy for your purpose of visit 3.) Lastly you should know about the plan in Canada

🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵 We have charged a man with sexual assault following a lengthy investigation that spanned nearly 3 years. 📍 On Sunday, July 23, 2023, between 1 & 2 a.m., a woman was walking in the 1200 block of Fourth Street S.W. when she was approached by a man who offered her money in exchange for sex. She declined, after which the man sexually assaulted her. The suspect then ran away. The woman attended the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre for medical treatment, at which point police were contacted. Officers viewed CCTV footage from the area but were unable to identify the suspect. However, they did seize biological evidence which was ultimately used to create a DNA profile which did not match any existing profiles in police databases. Nearly a year-and-half later, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, shortly before 3 a.m., another woman was sleeping outside in the 1200 block of 17 Avenue S.W, when a man offered her money in exchange for sex. After she refused, the man sexually assaulted her, then fled the area. The victim called 911 and was taken to the hospital, where biological evidence was once again collected for forensic identification. DNA analysis is a lengthy process. While work continued in the laboratory, officers continued their street investigation. After viewing CCTV footage of the second assault & gathering other evidence found on the scene, police identified a suspect. Officers obtained a warrant to secure a DNA sample, which was secured & sent for analysis. On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, laboratory results matched the DNA with that obtained from the suspect. The next day, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, police arrested Gramey WELDESELSA, 37, of Calgary. 📌 WELDESELSA is now charged with two counts of sexual assault and will be in court on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. 💬 Police believe there are other victims & are encouraging anyone with any information to contact them. In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault. Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident. Learn more about consent and reporting sexual assault: calgary.ca/sexualassault. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police. Mark Carney just renewed a law enforcement agreement with the PRC. “According to court documents, officers of the PRC’s Ministry of State Security’s (MSS) Shanghai State Security Bureau (SSSB) directed Xu to conduct this hacking. The MSS and SSSB are PRC intelligence services responsible for PRC’s domestic counterintelligence, non-military foreign intelligence, and aspects of the PRC’s political and domestic security.”

🚨 Today the @FBI and @TheJusticeDept announced the extradition of Xu Zewei, a prolific contract hacker alleged to have worked on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party. Xu is accused of participating in the HAFNIUM #cyber espionage group, which conducted a vast campaign directed by China’s Ministry of State Security that compromised thousands of U.S. organizations. In a separate campaign, Xu and his co-conspirators are also alleged to have targeted U.S.-based universities, immunologists, and virologists—once again under the supervision and direction of CCP intelligence officers. The #FBI is grateful to Italian law enforcement, especially the Polizia Postale, whose partnership was critical to securing Xu’s arrest and extradition. 🔗 justice.gov/opa/pr/prolifi…

This is AMAZING! 🔥🔥 The Liberals were ignoring Pierre's questions in Question Period like usual when they decided to pull an uno reverse card by asking Pierre a question. What they didn't expect was that Pierre was about to teach them how to actually answer a question. 🤣
