Everyone wants to win the champions league and there are zero arguments that it’s the pinnacle of club football. But there’s this culture to dimish absolutely exceptional teams if/when said team doesn’t win the CL. That’s extremely misplaced, in my opinion.
Reality is, it’s uncommon for the best team itw to win the UCL. When the stakes are so high, and effectively every team in the latter stages possesses the tools to hurt you, there are no guarantees. Ever.
Pep’s coached some of the best, most dominant teams in the world over the span of the past decade, and he only has a single CL to show for it. That’s not a discredit to him, nor to the greatness of those sides; rather, it’s a testament to how inherently volatile a comp such as the CL truly is.
