Whenever I hear “capitalism is bad,” here’s where I stand: People don’t risk their lives jumping barbed wire to escape capitalism. They risk their lives to reach it.

@varadmehta I’ve used their trail runners for long distance backpacking for many years. 1000s of back country miles, mostly out west but also in Florida sand. Great shoes

A couple people have mentioned Altra, which I was going to ask about after these turned up while I was searching some of the other recommendations on Amazon. I gotta say, they look intriguing. amazon.com/ALTRA-Experien…

Any of you wear Brooks running shoes? They any good? I've walked my current New Balances into the ground, so I need to replace them. Not sure if I'll stick with NB or switch to a new brand. A couple Brooks styles caught my eye, but they are 💳💳💳. So I'm wondering.

What’s your Erdős number?
Math Files@Math_files

Some people treat mathematics like a subject. Others live it. Paul Erdős belonged to the second kind. He wasn’t interested in a normal routine or a quiet life. Instead, he traveled constantly from one country to another, carrying little more than a suitcase, a sharp mind, and an endless curiosity. For him, mathematics was not just work—it was a way of thinking, almost like breathing. Erdős was known for his incredible discipline. He often worked up to 19 hours a day, diving deep into problems that most people would find overwhelming. Sleep, to him, was just a short pause—he believed three hours was enough before returning to the world of numbers. What makes his story even more remarkable is his output. Over his lifetime, he published nearly 1,500 research papers—an achievement almost unmatched in the history of mathematics. Even more impressively, he collaborated with more than 250 mathematicians, building a global network of thinkers who shared ideas and solved problems together. But his true legacy goes beyond numbers. Erdős played a key role in developing discrete mathematics—a branch of math that deals with countable, distinct objects. Today, this field forms the backbone of modern computer science. From algorithms that power search engines to the logic behind software programming, many of the systems we rely on every day are built on ideas that Erdős helped shape. We can say, while most people use technology, Erdős helped build the mathematical language that makes technology possible.
