If your idea of Catholicism comes mostly from social media, you’re probably arguing with a caricature.

Yesterday, I was laid off. 2nd time in the last 1.5 years. In the spirit of keeping it real these last 3 years have been some of the most stressful of my life. Fertility battles, finances, job market, the list goes on. But you know what? I have faith that the plan God has in store for me is greater than the battles I’m currently facing. These Trials are all part of the plan. Today is a new day. Today marks a new journey. A new climb begins. Ad Alta.

@elonmusk Thousands die each year without the system each year across Europe. It just needs to be done. At the very least for high risk individuals.

@FouriersFender @Pontifex I studied as part of food science in college and yes it was something that was a problem. As a result I worked as a research assistant on two projects using a solar dryer one which produced dried mango and the other for sugar production from cassava.

I studied this in high school for debate. One of the key factors people miss when you ship food into the region and give it away for free is that makes it harder for farmers to sell their produce and eliminates the ability for new farmers to cover start up costs to respond to demand. You're literally short circuiting the local economy and creating permanent dependency to assuage your own misspent guilt. If for some reason entrepreneurship somehow manages to occur, local governments skimming aid funds will sabotage it to keep foreign aid flowing. I watched a video of an African woman's Coca-cola stand getting bulldozed because it was doing too well.

It is important to resist the commodification of basic human needs. Food, water and healthcare cannot be subordinated to market considerations or geopolitical interests. Access to adequate food is a fundamental human right grounded in the dignity of every person. Meeting this need not only alleviates suffering but also addresses underlying causes of geopolitical instability. Indeed, food security is an essential component of global and integral security. vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

St John of the Cross, What exactly is the “dark night of the soul”? It is a period of spiritual purification where God removes sensory and emotional consolations to force the soul to rely on pure faith, hope, and charity. In Dark Night of the Soul, Saint John of the Cross offers one of the most profound and misunderstood teachings in all of Catholic spirituality. Drawing from his own mystical experiences, he reveals the path by which the soul is purified, detached from earthly comforts, and led into the heights of divine union. Contrary to popular belief, the “dark night” is not a sign of God’s absence, but of His active, intense work within the soul. It is a necessary period of purification where consolations are removed to invite the soul to trust more deeply and love more purely. Far from abandonment, this state is a mark of God’s special attention toward those He is drawing closer to Himself, stripping away reliance on feelings to make room for a participation in the Divine life. amazinggracestore.org/products/479 Not affilated with this company you can find it also amazon My Affliate link for book: amzn.to/4nUfXax

1. Ethiopia In 2023, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) took the drastic step of temporarily suspending all food aid to Ethiopia.  The Event: Investigators uncovered what was described as a massive, highly coordinated campaign to steal food aid nationwide.  The Method: Instead of reaching millions of citizens facing severe drought and the aftermath of the Tigray war, thousands of metric tons of donor-funded wheat and oil were systematically diverted by federal and regional government entities. The stolen aid was found stockpiled in commercial flour mills and openly for sale in local markets, still bearing donor branding.  2. Syria (Assad) Throughout the multi-year Syrian civil war, the government of Bashar al-Assad routinely integrated human aid into its war strategy. The Event: Independent watchdogs and UN reports have repeatedly shown that the Syrian government systematically restricted where aid could go. The Method: The regime forced UN agencies to route aid through government-approved organizations. Local authorities frequently siphoned off up to half of the incoming aid, diverting it to feed military units or selling the food kits in outdoor markets in Damascus for a profit, while blockaded, opposition-held areas were left to starve. 3. Yemen (Houthi) While Yemen has suffered one of the worst humanitarian crises of the century, the Houthi rebel movement has faced severe international condemnation for manipulating relief.  The Event: In 2019 and subsequent years, the WFP openly accused Houthi authorities of orchestrating the widespread theft of food rations.  The Method: Houthi officials manipulated beneficiary list data and blocked independent UN monitoring teams. Rations meant for starving children were routinely seized and sold on the open market to fund the Houthi military effort, forcing the UN to temporarily suspend food deliveries to Sana'a. 4. Venezuela During the 2019 socioeconomic and political crisis, the government of Nicolás Maduro directly targeted physical aid shipments. The Event: When a coalition of international donors attempted to bring hundreds of tons of emergency food and medicine across the border, the Venezuelan military actively blocked its entry. The Method: On Feb. 23, 2019, Venezuelan security forces used tear gas and rubber bullets to stop aid caravans at the Colombian and Brazilian borders. Multiple trucks carrying humanitarian supplies were set on fire and destroyed. Government officials justified the destruction by publicly claiming the food aid was "carcinogenic" and part of a foreign plot. 5. North Korea North Korea has a decades-long history of severe food shortages paired with systemic aid diversion, dating back to the devastating famine of the 1990s. The Event: Western nations and the UN have continuously struggled to monitor aid distribution inside the country due to severe government restrictions. The Method: Rather than distributing food according to human need, the North Korean regime routinely diverted international grain, milk powder, and biscuits to feed the military and political elites. Large quantities of international aid frequently leaked directly into state-sanctioned markets, where it was sold back to the public for cash. 6. Zimbabwe Under the ZANU-PF, the Zimbabwean government has repeatedly faced accusations of using international food aid as a political compliance tool. The Event: Human Rights Watch and Amnesty Inter. documented instances during various election cycles where government officials manipulated relief supplies. The Method: Local government and party officials took control of the registration lists for international food aid. Suspected political opposition supporters were systematically denied access to food rations, while international grain was either diverted to party loyalists or sold illegally through state-controlled marketing boards to line the pockets of local officials.

Globally we produce enough calories to support 10 billion people but due to corruption of governments that oversee distribution there is starvation. Aid that is sent is sometimes destroyed or rots in shipping containers. Need a method for these people to easily make their own food so they can control their own access.

I wish to appeal to the governments and peoples of the world to renew and strengthen their commitment, to increase the resources dedicated to combating hunger and its root causes, and to remove the obstacles that prevent aid from reaching those in need. At the same time, such support should also strengthen engagement with the Church and civil society. Reinforcing the capacities of all these actors together will multiply our collective effectiveness in the fight against hunger.

Yes everyone should have access to food, water and shelter but when we have corrupt governments that take the food and destroys it the issue is deeper than just access. Globally we produce enough food for everyone but corruption in governments results in people starving. Shouldn’t then the main focus be to provide access to people to have the knowledge of how to grow and sustain their own food in those places? That way those governments can’t control their food access. What other solutions could be provided?

Absolutely the case, I left just because of this and searched to find my own answers before reverting. I mourn the time away from the church but grateful to God to see our faith from a Bible alone (literally just me reading my Bible for two years), Protestant/different denominations from Lutheran to everything in between to Baptist/non denominational for five years, and Catholic perspective. I hope that He uses me to help others understand their faith better as well so they don’t do what I did. That is why I made the videos I did and this account along with the apps. To help others discover the beauty and application of the Catholic faith. God bless.

Hot take: Many Catholics don’t leave the Church because they stop believing. They leave because no one helped them understand why we believe. Do you agree, or is there more to it?

Pray The Rosary
Pray The Rosary@PrayTheRosary·
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all, because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen
